Actually, while it might not be cheaper, it *is* an interesting concept. Buy the cheapest vodka in the 1 gallon jugs at the supermarket (you know, their own "special brand") and pour it in.
What appeals to me about the concept (and I am trying to think of why it wouldn't work) is that while you can dump the water later, you don't have to worry about getting it all out. Heck, arguably it's not bad for sanitizing your hands when washing...
If it cost me $100 to avoid the paranoia of "did I get it all out and is it safe" each year... heck, that's not even 20 gallons of diesel at today's prices!
