Howard steering system

Just returned from a 950 mi trip in new to me 2001 diplomat. The wandering on the road seems a little too much and i noticed some free play in the steering wheel. The coach has a Howard steering system that seems not to be working? I turned system on and air pressure shows 140 psi but after i drove about 15 miles to the interstate it was showing no air pressure and the red on lite was off. Don't know if something is wrong or if I don't know how to operate the system. Anyone know about these systems?

I've heard that the Howard steering system is the absolute best steering stabilizer that ever hit the market. Unfortunately, the company no longer exists, which means even getting parts is impossible.

I think you need to get onto the yahoo Monacoers site. The moderator of that group has used the Howard system for years, as have some of the members of the group. You'll probably get the best advice there.

We had a 91 Beaver which I had put the Howard system on. Absolutely loved it and wish I could find one to put on our Monaco. IronHorse RV in San Antonio, TX used to be a major distributor for Howard, aka River City Products. I believe that IH still can service them. Their techs certainly know about them.

Howard Center Steer

Ok, I tracked the problem to a bad air compressor. Ordered and installed a new compressor. When i set the pressure to approx 140psi the compressor will bring the pressure up to 140psi then cut off, in about 5 seconds it comes on again for approx 5 seconds then cuts off again and continues this on/off cycle. I notice the gauge is dropping slowly when the pump turns off then regains when the pump cycles on. Is this the way it works? I cannot find any air leaks. This might be normal but I don't want to burn up the new pump.

Thanks Eddie G

Howard center steer

This is happening while parked with engine idling. Have not road tested yet.
