HR Keyless Entry Problem

2003 Holiday Rambler Navigator with Keyless entry. Every 3 to 5 times I use the Keyless entry to lock, it blows the 15a Security fuse in the font run box. Looking for advice on how to troubleshoot the problem, already used 7 fuses and still no idea what is causing problem. Never seems to blow fuse when unlocking. All locks seem to operate normally with key.

I'm guessing you have the Essex system. You should email or call them. I think they will help you troubleshoot. The keypad used in those years is discontinued but they have one that is close to plug & play. It's a reasonably simple replacement if the keypad turns out to be the problem. The new pad uses blue LEDs and the buttons push easier.

If you lock with 555, I'm guessing the 5/6 key isn't the issue.

As Steve said, call Essex. In the mean time, if you're looking for something to do, I'd check, to the extent practical, the wiring and relays that actuate the door locks.

There are two wires going to each lock actuator, probably green and blue. When the system initiates the lock function, one wire will momentarily have +12VDC and the other will be Ground. When the unlock function is initiated the conditions are momentarily reversed.

Since it seems to happen only during "lock", as opposed to "unlock", there is a good possibility that one of your actuator wires is intermittently contacting ground through frayed insulation or a loose connection. There is a pair of relays that accomplish the polarity reversing action mentioned above and they might be a good place to look as well. That is to say swap them with other relays to see if the problem persists.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

FWIW

update

well at last it started blowing fuse every time it locked. So after calling Essex and finding out nothing in their system would cause my problem and with there advise I disabled Passenger side lock relay and problem continued, disabled Drivers side relay and problem solved. Then I disconnected all bay door actuators on Drivers side and reconnected one at a time until fuse blew. Thankfully it is bay not used often so I left it unconnected until I have time to investigate further. Thanks for all the help.
