Hydraulic failure - no steering or fans

Driving along yesterday when I lost power steering. I went a bit farther to get to where I could safely pull over and noticed the temperature rising too (fans quit). Initial checks showed nothing obvious - no lines blown, fluid level good, etc..

I was about 45 minutes from home and have no good service in the area, so had it towed to my home shop where I hope to repair it myself. Anyone ever experience something like this? Where do I start looking?

HW.

If your hydraulic system is not low on fluid, you'll probably have to remove the pump for testing; maybe a local tractor shop; John Deere, Case IH ; can help , or at least tell you who can.
Pumps are usually , mounted to the back of the air compressor , and you will have to catch a lot of fluid when you remove it.

HW the 96 Monaco Sig has a belt that pulls the Hyd pump and that could be your problem it could have broke, the tension adjustment is critical on that belt , the belt is a Gates 14MGT-1190-37, I will past a link to the belt.

I am not sure where you will have the round or square Hyd tank if round it will have 3 Hyd filters that may be plugged if belt is OK if Square most have one screw on filter.

I have the square tank. Last winter I replaced the cooler and changed the fluid and spin-on filter. I'm going to pull into the shop later today. Will look for the belt drive. I didn't think it was belt drive.?? I will be a happy guy if it's just a broken belt!!

Pilgrimfarms same thing happened to my dad on his 95 Dynasty. Belt came off and disappeared. Stranded him by the road like you. He ordered 2 belts and always carried a spare from then on. If yours is like his it is a cogged belt and they run what would appear to the eye loose. Don't tighten it like you would a fan belt or you will need to install your spare belt real soon. Randy

Just ran out to look. Belts are all in place. Guess it's time to look for the pump.

There is a priority valve in the system with orings on it. Before you do too much, try calling Monaco with a description of your problem and ask them if they have ideas. Email me at slemnah@sbcglobal.net and I will send you some info on the hydraulic system.

Thanks Steve. I haven't had much luck with Monaco - seems my coach is too old, but I might try them again. I will check and see if mine has a similar priority valve setup. My coach is much different than a HR Imperial. This is the big Roadmaster chassis, but I'll check for similarities to the Spartan diagram.

My bad, I thought you had the same Spartan Mountain Master chassis as mine imperial did.
