Hydraulic reservoir for slides, 2002 Dynasty

Hi all,

I have a 2002 Monaco Dynasty with tag axle and air leveling. My question concerns the hydraulic fluid reservoir that feeds the slide system. I just developed a leak at the rear cylinder of the street side main slide, and am pretty comfortable with the procedure to replace.

My confusion is this: after finding the fluid leaking, I checked the main hydraulic reservoir in the engine bay and it is low. While researching the cylinder fix, I started seeing people talking about a hydraulic reservoir for the slides located under the entry steps, attached to the pump.

I crawled under to look, and there is what appears to be a small reservoir on the hydraulic pump, but it appears to be totally empty. Tapping on it sounds hollow, and there is no indication of ever leaking. It is totally dry. The thing is... my slide hydraulics have always worked fine in the 8 ears we have owned it.

So, even though I can't find any reference in the manual or online, is it possible that the slides on my rig are fed by the main hydraulic reservoir? It seems too much of a coincidence that there is fluid on the ground, and the main reservoir is low. I checked it before our last trip and it was full.

Am I correct that my slides are supplied by the main reservoir? Is this simply the standard configuration for a rig with air leveling (no hydraulic jacks)?

Are you sure that the tank in the engine bay is not for the engine fan and power steering. The one under the steep is the hydraulic system for slides

If it's empty you are a few operations of that leaking slide cylinder stopping all of them from working. Put the proper amount of fluid in it.
I've never seen one work off the steering reservoir.

This caption is from 2002 Dynasty Owners Manual page 5-163:
... Locate the slide-out room hydraulic pump on the lower left front frame of the chassis...

Sounds like you have not replaced the hydraulic oil or filters and may be time to do that also. I use a cheap $15.00 manual pump to suck the reservoir before filter change rather than disconnecting the lines under the reservoir. Much easier & cleaner than what the Owners Manual shows.

Actually I do change fluids and filters on the recommended intervals. I just didn't realize that there was a tank under the step, and am still puzzled by the main tank being low after this leak appeared. That's why I was asking the question.

The tank on the engine bay is definitely for the power steering and engine fan. My question was whether it might also supply the slides. I am still puzzled as to why the main tank would be low after the leak appeared, that's why I was wondering if it supplied the slides also.

The HWH slide out system has it's own electric pump and small reservoir. It does not share fluid with the hydraulic fan and power steering system.

Good luck repairing that slide cylinder. I hear they are tough to remove. You may also have a balancing cylinder buried up in there.
