I have a dumb question

Hi, How do I remove the rocker switches on my dashboard? I would assume they just pull straight out, but I don't want to break them because of my ignorance. I purchased a roll of "Burl Wood" contact paper and I want to remove the dash pieces and cover it with this burl wood covering.
Thanks for your help!

You need to find a way to get behind then. Then there is usually plastic tabs on the top/bottom or on the sides. You can just push one side tab in and pull it out from the front. If you just try to pull them out you will most likely snap off a tab on one side and have to replace the whole assembly. That is a generic answer just based on working with those types of switches in several different type RV's.

Why not just remove the 4 screws on each black panel? Lift the whole bunch from the dash and you should be easily be able to push on the spring tabs on the back that holds each switch in it's pocket.

Be very careful when putting the screws back in. A bit too tight and the flimsy corners will break. Getting the plugs off the back of the switches can be a real pain too. Those connectors can be very tight.

Generally the above advice is best but I'd pull the panel and inspect,, Some Rockers do not mount with tabs.

Also, I have had occasional success with a proper tool doing it from the front,, But I do not recommend you try this.

Fact: For the hood over the stove,,, I was in a Pep Boys the other day and found a nearly identical switch.. Here are the differences

Different color rocker,,, Lighted (so it has 3 terminals not 2)

Size... Like a glove it fits.. And I can make the light work if I want to.

A complete datasheet for those switches are >> HERE <<

It includes several drawings, including showing the mounting tabs that hold the switches in place from behind. You need to gently squeeze those tabs together, then the switch will pop out the front of the panel.

So yes, you need to remove the panel, then remove the connectors from the back of the switch, and finally remove the switch from the panel.

Thanks!

Thank You everyone, I did pull the screws today and figured out how to remove the switch(s)... not very easy, but doable! I managed to do 2 panels of the dashboard and the burl wood covering really looks nice. I post some pictures if anyone is interested.

Tom, don't hold back, dude....post your photos so we can see the results!

Honestly, I'm wanting to do this to two different MHs and won't consider a DIY project unless I can see that you've outdone yourself.

Let us know so we can be properly impressed........
