Personally I would want my rig brought close to home. A full timer would have a different perspective on this, but maybe has a preferred trusted shop many miles from their break down.

We need an Angie’s list of mobile mechanics across the country.
He owns a trucking company and said in previous post he can get it towed at fraction ot normal towing costs.

I read the thread. This was for my and others benefit. The question was posed later in this thread (post 32) What would others do in this situation?

Bad connecting rod forging.
Dropped a valve on top of a piston at rpm.
Hydraulic’d cylinder (massive amount of fuel or water on top of the piston).

Possibly other causes.

Connecting rod coming loose or failure is always catastrophic.

Another cause I would look into after a recent oil change is a plugged piston cooling nozzle. Years ago we had a tractor sieze a piston right after an oil change. Dealer replaced one cylinder and sent it home where we did the same thing 6hrs later when we started working it. On light duty it was fine. Once I put it under a heavy load it lasted about 5 minutes under load and sized the same cylinder and once again pulled wet sleeve in half. That time the dealer did a total rebuild out of frame and found oil galley and one cooling nozzle full of pleated filter media.

Wow, Do they know what brand filter caused that?

Owning my own trucking company for a number of years (not any longer) I would consider actually hiring a trucking company with a lowboy or detachable trailer to haul mine home, if I wasn’t able to do the work on my engine myself I would also certainly consider finding a reputable Cummins dealer to perform the repair, the main reason being, if you should have issues down the road that would be under the Cummins warranty any Cummins dealer could do the work, on the other hand if it’s a local repair shop and you should have issues you’d be force to get it back to that repair shop for warranty repairs at your cost. I’m not knocking any Independant repair shop, but after trucking from Mn to California for 20+ years I’ve seen some friends of mine have issues with independent shops with no recourse other than bringing the trk back to the original repair facility at there expense, that’s not always feasible!
One of my friends had an engine go down in Wyoming and had it repaired at an independent repair shop because it was less than a Cummins shop, it lasted for about 3 months, then he had a Cummins shop do the repair, it actually cost him more money in the long run, food for thought!

Jmo!

Every RV towing insurance company I've seen stipulates "towed to the nearest qualified service center" right in the listing of service. We're often 1-2+ thousand miles from our home base and I wouldn't want to chance having it towed that far. We've had some luck contacting Newmar for recommendations of mobile mechanics in the immediate area. I haven't had good luck using Angie's list on more than one occasion. (did a lousy job)
