Information on a 2002 Monterrey/Monaco might buy

This coach is described as 2002 ( but has the 3 slide floor plan which was offered in 2003) and is 40 feet long

Has the Aqua Hot System , All new tires , fresh filters on transmission and new fuel filters. And Dealer is to install new Windshield ( Both Sides ) and 2 new couches , carpet has been replaced and no signs of leaks

Described as a 2002 Monterrey/Monaco/Contessa/Tuscany/Beaver

Being offered by a dealer who has an all 5 star rating. This coach was bought at auction in Florida and driven 1,800 miles of Ultra Smooth Driving ( All new tires and alignment done prior)- Power is a 375HP Cummings with a Turbo and a 6 speed Allison Transmission . Has not been in a flood , is not a salvage unit - just a Bank Repo.

Has Solar Panel on top , 3 slides , Freight liner Chassis , Power Jacks , Kingdom Satellite System , 2 Durotherm Penguin A/C UNits with Heat Pumps

Pictures show the unit to be in Very Good Condition ( Needs a good Detailing I'm sure ) This coach has 36K miles and is being offered at $34,500

Owner of RV has a full onsite RV repair/sales and his site is full of praise of great work at fair prices etc and he sure seems like a straight shooter over the phone.

Before I make the over 3 hour drive I would like to know what some of the more experienced think about this coach and deal. Not sure why the long name but I always heard that Beaver's where very well made.

Much Obliged

Sonny

Cummins didn't make a 375, might be a 350 ISC or a 380 ISL.

My coach was a repo, it was +8 hours away but by chance we were driving close to there. Stopped to look and never looked back. Closed the deal on the phone the next week and then flew down to pick it.

I would not hesitate to go look at it. Do a complete inspection. Crawl over, under, and through the coach. Make sure every appliance works (generator, AC's, Frig, Water Heater).

Take a good look at the engine's condition.

I would request oil samples (engine, coolant, transmission, generator) so you could send in for analysis.

The old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" holds true.

Beaver made three Monterey 40' floor plans in 2003. They are built on the Roadmaster M series chassis with a Cummins 350hp ISC. This is a great chassis and a great engine. Hydro-Hot was a very expensive option so this is probably loaded with options. As long as it's in good condition this should be a very nice coach.

The OP mention $34,500 for 40' triple slide, what a steal, won't last long if it is as described.

Yes it is exactly as described , and you are spot on with your " Won't last long "

as apparently there are 2 deposits , I was waiting for the weekend to go down and check it out but I also had doubts about buying an 'Auction Unit'

Might try buying a smaller , newer Class C unit. Will keep everyone posted , the ad is still on Craigslist for viewing

Could be a great deal.

Things you need a third party inspector to verify condition:
1. Engine and transmission
2. Moisture infiltration. Many RV's have "no signs of leaks." Based on a cursory or detailed investigation? Never take a seller's word for it.
3. Aqua Hot. If not working properly, this could be a simple service issue, but if you have to replace very expensive.
4. Windshield. Why both sides replaced? Frame twisting?

Not surprising that a coach of this vintage would require items like carpet and furniture to be replaced but did they age out or were they trashed due to abuse? I would start with the assumption that this coach was abused and/or neglected. Doesn't mean it absolutely was, but it could save you a lot of subsequent $ if you do.

Finally, how many of you have ever seen or got a 'great deal' at a dealership?

Caveat emptor.
