Installing Auto Start for Generator

Can anyone advise me on what would be involved in installing an auto start for the generator on my 2003 Exec. Thanks

I'd start by checking with the cummins/onan website. They have a wireless auto start that might fit your needs.

I'm surprised you don't have auto start on the control panel for the charging system, this would be used for low voltage starting to recharge batteries.

I needed to be able to have the RV start if the power went out and the temperature climbed.

I installed the wireless system from Onan on my 2002 Windsor
http://power.cummins.com/sites/defau...res/f-1824.pdf

Very simple. You buy the system and a "Y" connector that goes on the generator. You take the wiring harness apart on the generator and put in the "Y" connector, and mount the control module on the front firewall. You then put the wireless unit in the RV but it has to be connected to a NONinverter plug so that it can sense if the power goes out. You then can set it to start either with low voltage or temp.

There are several places to buy if you search Onan EC-30W

I had to move the wireless unit up closer to the front to have better communication with the base unit, this is a known issue with this model. The do also offer a hard wired unit but it's harder to install.

JAW, check your owners manual, we just purchased our '03 executive last December and had no need/use for the auto start feature so far
I know I read about it in my owners manual, it's quite detailed as far as set up goes, it has auto start based on time of the day so as to prevent starting on quiet hours, low voltage etc.
It seem a little complicated for my level of interest, but I'm probably going to set it up gor our next trip just because is there
Good luck!

Thanks to all who offered help on my question. I will check the manual again to see if the auto-start is supposed to be there. If not, the wireless Onan unit sounds like the way to go. Finding a non-inverter outlet may be a problem since the only one I can think of is the one behind the refrigerator for powering the Norcold ice maker. The Norcold has been replaced with a Samsung so maybe I can extend that outlet forward to get it closer to the generator.

The easiest thing to do is get an extension cord of the appropriate length and plug it into the old ice maker outlet and then snake it up towards the front to a location where you will put the wireless remote.

I did this on my Windsor, I drilled a hole from a cabinet into the refrigerator compartment and ran an extension cord up into the coach. I cut the cord to get it through the small hole and then used butt splices to put it back together. I mounted the wireless unit on the wall between my 2 passenger side windows next to the small sconce light. I can monitor it from the couch on the drivers side. You may want to move this closer to the front.

Magnum Energy makes a universal AGS that is half the cost of the ONAN unit.

I just checked my manual and it states that the inverter can be programmed to start and stop the generator. I was expecting to see a separate panel for the auto start of the generator.

Currently we are packing up to head North (Washington state) to escape this heat. When we get to our destination, I will go through the setup process described in the manual to see if I can get it to work. Again, thanks to all for your help and comments. I have always been a believer in the principal that "None of us is as smart as all of us."

Hi JAW,

Use this link http://www.irv2.com/forums/attachmen...4&d=1407511879 I could not get mine to auto start on my 2003 Dynasty. I was going crazy following the manual with no avail. A member posted these directions and it work immediately.

You can adjust voltage cut in etc. depending on usage once you get it going.

Good luck!
