Instrument Gauges go whacky

I have a 2007 Scepter with a Roadmaster chassis, 400 Cummins engine and have had a number of instances where my gauges have acted like I was in the Bermuda triangle, Seat belt indicator illuminated, dinging, all other gauges bouncing around. It usually happens while pulling a grade, but it also happened once while in Nevada on flat terrain. Any help out there would be appreciated. Thank you, Mark

Wife's 2014 Cruze did that, and it was a bad ground from the battery causing low voltage to the BCM. Cleaned the ground, problem went away. Happened to a van we used to own, and had to replace the instrument cluster.

Other than that, I got nothing.

Different engine, but similar problem. Check out this link for info, then check your battery cutoff switch if you have one. Dick

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Since this is affecting all the gauges I would suspect a problem with a common ground! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Mine has a specific wire in the battery box that needs to connect to the negative. It is labeled "Instrument Panel Ground" or something similar in fine text on the side of the wire. I forgot to re-attach it once after servicing the batteries and it made the instrument cluster go wonky.

Have no idea why a chassis ground isn't good enough, but Monaco did some funny things.

MarkBerthold,

I experienced a similar issue last July 2018, and in my case, there was a water logged connector, on a power control board, in the front run bay that was causing the “warning bank” and analog instruments to flash and wiper sweep.

After having a heavy truck shop to troubleshoot the issue, this is what they found. They used electrical contact cleaner and dielectric grease on the connector once the water was removed and recommended I apply the same to all of the connectors in the entire front run bay which I did. There have been no more issues.
