Interior Grab Handle Modify on Monarch SFS

Anyone added a different interior entry step grab handle assembly in a Monarch SFS. Mine has a nice wooden grip installed on the cabinet side, but it is inset 4 inches from the doorframe edge which makes it hard to reach inside around the door frame when coming in from outside. My DW has trouble with the grip due to disabilities (major back surgeries). I've considered adding a 4 inch piece of matching oak for the length of the handle as a spacer between the cabinet and handle, or buying a metal angled grip which mounts to the inside edge of the wall vertical with the door frame. At a recent RV show I saw several curved models such as this on motorhomes and on trailers. They were approx. 36 inches long. The top would be about six inches above the adjacent counter top and about 6 inches above the floorline.

My old Itasca 30W (2001) had a very nice metal grip which was installed on the floor at bottom end and on the wall at the curved top end. My Monaco is limited in the area for such a large one as this due to a drop down counter top extension above the step well area.

One other question....if I add the three foot type, does anyone know what type of support is in the wall beside the door frame...say within 3 inches parrallel of the frame? I assume that area is beefed up due to the ones I saw at the RV show were very sturdy.

Answer to my own question. I purchased an interior grab handle designed for Four Winds Huricane Class A. Cost was $36 plus $12 shipping and taxes. For installation I bought four size 12 x 1" phillips taperhead screws and painted heads black. I predrilled holes into wall before installing.

Works perfect...could also have been installed on other side of door frame.

I need the exact same grab handle. Do you have a source for this?

would you by chance have a manufacturer or part number for the grab handle. I wanted to see if I could contact RV America and order one. Thanks

I dug through my receipts in owners box and found a copy of the Apr. 13, 2009 receipt . It shows Part No. 0118408 "Grab Handle"

Thank you for the part number info. Does the invoice have any more info such as the dealer name, address, phone number, etc. I'm having a real hard time locating the grab handle.

Thanks again

RV America East, Inc.

Aurora, CO 80011

Phone 303 360 0252 Fax 303 343 8901

Handle was in a Four Winds Hurricane Gasser ... and was a 2008 or 2009 Model

This is all the info I have. I remember at the time I was told at some other dealers that they could not place over the counter orders for walk-in customers.

Hope this is helpful in finding what you need.
