Last year I had a Cummins ISC with a head gasket leak. It took five months to gather the parts that were purchased through Cummins network. I was at the repair shop at least three times a week, and think the shop was trying all they could. The owner even brought in his retired father to spend time everyday arguing with Cummins about the availablity of parts.

Self insuring is for those who can afford to "self insure". If not buy a policy. deSanford

A policy is for those who can afford them, if not self insure. Just another POV.

Agreed. Throwing a rod in any motor is a rare occurrence. Kinda like buying insurance against a meteor strike. That said, if I buy another used MH I'm inclined to buy for the minor $3-4k stuff that is more likely.

I felt sick reading your posts, Suzuki. Condolences. Hope you get it fixed and on your way.

Coincidentally, we were at that same Cummins facility several years ago, and saw a 'new' Camelot with a fist-size hole in the block. It was being delivered to a west-coast dealer when it let go. Dunno what happened or how long it had been there.

Warning bells would be ringing loudly if I were Quoted $30+ 000! I would be looking for a wrecker like Envision for a good used for under $10,000.

Probably not a viable "insurance" option.
$36k is crazy.
What's the difference in the $6k that they won't pay - is it deductible?

Geeze, airplane motors cost less than that... amazing.

On the hold-up - have you asked what the deal is @ the shop? Could be parts or something else that the shop has limited control over.

Not trying to sound harsh, but what exactly are your expectations?? Seems to me the insurance company is doing right by you in paying over 30k for your repairs. They could have simply denied your claim as a maintenance failure. I understand your pain but repairs like this will take some time. Not defending anyone but my advice would be to find a mobile home park near the repair shop and rent a mobile home for a couple months. Many snowbirds have left so many park models are available. Make lemonade from the lemons. Count your blessings that the bulk of the repair is being covered....just my two cents....Dennis

The insurance company might be doing right but I would want a good explanation of why the claim is not fully covered. Its not a gift.

Seeing as the claim was not denied , maintenance is a mute point.

Wow! So sorry to hear about your troubles Suziki, we all hope & pray that you get through this and on your way real soon. You mentioned in your posting "The engine serial number is before the Cummins recall. 46471914". Can you tell me about this recall? We recently purchased an 07 Diplomat 40SKQ with a 400 Cummins, would this DP be part of a Recall? Geezz now I'm worried that this motor is gonna blow up! If anyone out there can enlighten me about this recall, we would be forever grateful. Thanks, and good luck to you Suzuki.

And there are some here who could write 2 - 3 checks (or more) for that amount and still have money in their checking account.
