Isolator Solenoid

Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone can point in the direction of where I will find the isolator solenoid in a 2000 Monaco LaPalma Model 34 PBD.

Try looking in the front-most exterior storage compartment on the driver's side. There's a plastic box inside one of the compartments that contains fuses and other electrical items. In later models the solenoid is in that box. See this link from the owner's manual for more details.

It's somewhere near the house and chassis batteries. It has large battery cables on it.

Have someone push the boost switch on and off while you listen for it clunking. It's the same solenoid.

Thanks so much Mark! It was exactly where you suggested I look. This is it.... right?

I also included a picture of the board it's on.

I noticed it's missing a fuse. Does anyone else see it missing? Should I find a replacement for the missing fuse?

The KIB solenoid with the 5A fuse is for the house batteries. There's a switched and an unswitched set of 12V house loads. On the switched side, that solenoid sits between the house battery supply and the switched loads. The "BATTERY" switch at the door activates that solenoid.

If you are looking for the solenoid that connects the chassis and house battery banks, it's under the bundle of wires in the lower-center of that panel. It should have a connection to the chassis battery cable on one side and the house battery cable on the other. To find out what's what, carefully move the wires aside.

Only one fuse on that solenoid (lower RH side), some will utilize both but not in this instance. Only a voltmeter (or test light) will tell you if it works... "clunks" can be wrong.

Thanks OldWEB.... How would I test it? set my meter to DC and where do I put the probes? what should the reading be?

Testing that solenoid:

Place meter probe on one large post and other probe on metal ground.

One post will show 12 volts all of the time, the other side will show 12 volts when you cycle the battery control switch near the door.

IT NOT THE ISOLATION SOLENOID.
That has much larger cables on it.

I'm putting one of these in. It will work as an isolator will it will charge with power coming from both ways and can be used as a boost solenoid.

What I was looking for was the charging solenoid.
