Jeep Shaking and wobble while In flat tow.

I wonder if anybody else has this problem. I had the Jeep dealer install the wobble kit. No more wobble, but when I disconnect the Jeep for the first time after flat towing it. And I drive it there is a smell like burnt clutch,or brake smell maybe smells like rubber burning. Very strong smell,it goes away after about 1/2 hour of driving.I have opened the hood and smelled the tires but can’t tell where the smell is coming from.I only got this smell after flat tow and after the kit was installed to stop the wobble. If I’m alone with this problem next stop is Jeep when I get home.

You are not the first to notice this and it's not just with Jeeps. Seems to be debris burning off.

I too have this mysterious odor aft towing my jeep, starting it up and driving it. i agree that it is crud etc from the road ( real bad when its wet out) that got onto the radiator etc and its heating up and burning off.. strange it does not happen when i tow my F-150.. or i just don't smell it as bad...

What you are smelling is the residual rubber and debris off the roadway that settles on your engine and exhaust while under tow. It burns off after a short time only to return when you next tow.

Why does what settles on your engine and exhaust when towing burn off after you start the engine? I tow a 2014 2WD Jeep Cherokee on a dolly and it doesn't smell when I drive it after towing.

Ok good to know I thought it was the brakes or something. I wonder why I never had any smell until I had the wobble kit installed?

Stumbled on this thread - what is the Jeep wobble kit? We just put together a new-to-us 2007 Holiday Rambler Ambassador 40PDQ with a 2007 Jeep Liberty Sport, and on our second trip, had a catastrophic blowout in a nearly new driver front tire. I’m hoping it was just a bad “China bomb” tire that delaminated for no reason, and we don’t see anything wobble when it was under tow, but I’m trying to research all possible sources of dangerous situations.

The wobble kit TSB is only for newer Jeep Cherokee models which have an interaction between the Electric Power Steering and being flat towed. It's not for any othe Jeep model.

Some Chevrolet Equinox, 4 cylinder, has the wobble, including our`s -- GM came up with a "Fix" -- Someone tried it, & they to, smelled burning -- GM thought it to be brakes -- I didn`t do the fix -- Rather have the wobble than screw something else up -- Bill Willard

If you saw the death wobble, you may change your mind.

Here at two U Tube links showing it. They are not being towed but the same thing happens. Real tough on the car and tow bar.

One while being towed.
