Do you think the hole was made by a rock that was thrown up by the rear tires?

At this point it is anybody's guess. The hole is low and well inside the fan shroud. The bottom of the area is covered by screen so I can't really see how something could get in there. Waiting to see what the radiator shop says. Sure hope the extended warranty covers it. So far they have about 4 hours labor into it at $125 an hour.

If it was a rock that was thrown up by the tire and hit the fan blade and then hit the radiator then it is covered by your insurance if the extended warranty doesn't come through. It is just like a rock hitting your windshield. All you need is a statement from they repair guy stating that it was caused by a rock. I have used the insurance like that in the past with great success.

Still waiting. The independent insurance adjuster showed up yesterday took pictures and conveyed his findings to the extended warranty people. The extended warranty people then called and talked to Freightliner to get some more information. They said they would get back to them but so far no word. AZ Frieghtliner in Chandler closes at 5:30 today and does not open again until Monday at 7AM. We will be locked in the yard all that time . My guess now is we won't be out of here until Tuesday. The madding thing is that the radiator shop repaired the radiator on Thursday in order to test it but here we sit.

Brian, now you spent the weekend in the lot, what happened today? Did you get on the road, is the radiator in now? What is happening?

They started reinstalling the radiator today. They did not say so but I think we had to wait for the same mechanic who removed it and he was working on a semi since Friday. The radiator is bolted in place but still needs the hoses connected and all the sheet metal surrounding the radiator reinstalled. They are saying we should be out of here on Tuesday. Sure hope so as the black tank is almost full.

Well the ordeal is over. They finished up the coach on Tuesday about noon. Just in time too as our black tank showed full at about 10AM. The entire job was just a hair under $1900 and was taken care of by Phoenix American our extended warranty provider. Other than having to just sit and wait the repair was reasonably painless and Freightliner of Arizona in Chandler was great. We have moved over to Apache Junction for a few days to wash clothes and clean up. For now at least; life is good.

No cause was ever mentioned but I am sure if there was any hint that it was not a defect in the radiator and that something had punched the hole the extended warranty company would not have paid. They sent out an independent adjuster who looked it over and sent pictures back to the company. Even the Freightliner mechanic said it is too well protected in the area where the hole was to have been caused by a rock.

Brian, glad it is fixed and on the road again. If they didn't tell you then you might want to ask which anti-freeze they used in case you have to top it up later. They always burp a bubble later on after the water has been drained out. There should be a petcock on the top of the radiator's highest point so you can bleed off any air.
It still might have been a rock that was kicked up by the tire and hit the fan blade and was batted into the radiator.

They installed an alliance antifreeze . All the tech said was stay with green. He also said if I had any more work done at a Freightliner shop they should automatically check it,
