LED replacements for interior FL fixtures

Well I got 5, 18” units modded today. Watched the videos from RV Geeks on YouTube and seemed simple. I opted for the M4 tubes. The units in our Endeavor were not at all like shown in the video. The diffuser cover is all riveted and access to the ballast is a PITA. By watching the video I learned the basics and applied them for what was IMO an easy deal. I opted to remove the fixtures one at a time and work on the bench. I created a video for the process and will post the link latter. I am pleased with results and chose natural light bulbs.

Looking forward to seeing your work. I’m a big fan of lighting ambiance but our camper falls somewhere between a poorly lit surgical operating room and a dog kennel. Happy new year

I gutted all my fluorescence including the ballasts and replaced with 12 volt LED strips that I bought from ledsupply.com. Works great. As you, I did all mine on the bench since I had to drill out the rivets that were holding the reflectors in place.

I contemplated the strips but went with tubes. Those strips have not been kind to me in the past! The fixtures in a 2008 add some challenges but not that bad if you understand the principle.

Send a message via ICQ to Ivylog
Only LEDs I’ve had bad luck with are the strips. I used four 48 chip panels instead.

The PO changed all the pot lights to LED, I like them and went after the FL fixtures. I had changed all the 5fver lights out for LED previously and a huge difference.

If looking for LED tubes, Walmart now carries in store led tubes to fit both in warm and bright for about $7.00 each. We have a couple and they have worked well for us. Will probably replace the rest of them. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert

You could always discard the Fluorescent fixtures and replace with LED puck lights.

They are all done short of three 12” units in the master bedroom. Just a another week or so and all will be done! The 12” units require a additional igniter per tube. I have done one and figured Out how to hide the mess considering the reflectors are Riveted to the base fixture. It would be hard to tell they are modified short of the New sticker applied For future owners if it comeS to that!

Jobert - do you happen to have a Walmart part number for those tubes? None near us, so I have to resort to mail-ordering most things.

TIA!

I did the LED conversion also, using two strips of these per fixture:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Maybe the best upgrade I've done on an RV. The only problem I have is they might be too bright! I'm adding a micro toggle switch to each of the 5 fixtures, to turn off one of the two strips when not needed.
BTW, the small fixture over the sink area had a night light in it. I replaced the regular fluorescent in that fixture with an LED strip, and the nightlight incandescent bulb in the fixture with about 1" piece from the light-strip. A 16 foot roll can do all fixtures, if you use one strip in each, which is probably all you need.

Now that is a funny post

LED lights made a huge difference in our Monaco. A GREAT and welcome improvement.
