Looking at Dynasty - Advice please?
Hi and happy holidays- I am looking to upgrade to a newer and higher end DP. 3 of the ones we are considering include a '07 Dynasty Queen IV, '07 Dynasty Palace III, and a '08 Dynasty Renaissance IV. All are low mileage of approx. 40K and have the 400 Cummins, Allison transmission, 4 slides. All appear to be in excellent condition and only minor wear and tear. Tires and batteries are within a few years old. Most include manuals and some maintenance records but all 3 are at a dealer. I do plan on getting a professional inspection done as we narrow it down.
As owners of these Monaco products, is there anything specific that you feel I should be looking for or aware of? Any advice, tips are greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Terry

Hi Terry, the Dynasty was a great coach and one of the best highend coach values that Monaco ever produced, as far as I’m concerned. You get the top of the line S-Series chassis and often options that could align them pretty close to the higher up Executive and Signature.
For the most part the usual inspection items apply. 2007 and 2008 are right at the edge of the DEF and other emissions requirements. Someone who knows the ISL better can hopefully chime in.
Here are the digital brochures for the coach if you’re interested.
2007 Monaco Dynasty Brochure: https://www.monacocoach.com/resource...60_brc_pdf.pdf
2008 Monaco Dynasty Brochure: https://www.monacocoach.com/resource...92_brc_pdf.pdf
For interests sake, the Roman numeral after the floorplan name denotes the number of slides the coach has. So the Palace III floorplan has 3 slides and not 4 (although one is a full wall slide).
All the best!
Josh

I would go older. Monaco was going under in 2007-2008.

Jeff753. Are you basing that comment on actual experience or guessing? Qe have an 08 Dynasty and it has served us well. Workmanship has never been a problem. Ik ow other owners of 07and 08 Dynasty units. Most of the problems have been with appliances or accessories. Nothing to do with anything done by the factory. Of course they have some of the same problems as say on 06 unit. What about the fiberglass crazing of dark paint. A $35,000 problem thatdoes not occur on 08units as they changed suppliers.

The Dynastys are great coaches. There are some issues with a small number of ISL 400 enginess which had wrist pin problems. The list of engine #s should be in another thread on IRV2 about that.
One possible issue regarding the 08 and later Monacos is that some (later year models) were equipped with the Konigsberg chassis Mux (Not to be confused with the Intellitec lighting multiplex which will be in pretty much all Dynastys of that year range). The issue with the Konigsberg chassis mux is part availability. You can get more info on the Konigsberg by searching here in IRv2.

Did any Dynasty units built by the old Monaco have that non Intellitec multiplex? I thought that was Navistar.

Good morning,
Thanks to everyone for their responses and advice. I find them very helpful! I have also found a 2008 Monaco Executive with 54K miles that also appears to be in excellent condition and checks all of the boxes. It's been stored inside it's entire life and has a great layout with both a sofa and booth on the passenger side slide and a sofa and kitchen on the driver side slide. It has the 525 Cummins. We like both the '07 Dynasty Queen IV and this Executive very much. We'll see where we go with these. Unfortunately they are both out of state from us so it takes a little more time and effort to coordinate tasks, etc.
Thank you!

Executive is a great coach as well. The 525 Cummins would the the ISX. There is a well known EGR valve issue with the ISX when the engine sits too long (like motorhomes usually do). This was usually more common in the higher horsepower versions of the ISX (like the 600hp). But still something to check on the 525. We don't have an ISX either, so I'm sure those that have the engine can comment in more detail.
Otherwise, these are fantastic coaches. Here is the 2008 Executive brochure: https://www.monacocoach.com/resource...52_brc_pdf.pdf
Here is the link to all of the archived brochures that Monaco has posted, in case you find something else: https://www.monacocoach.com/luxury-rv-brochures
We like the curb-side (patio-side) dinette table floor plan layout as well, and they are relatively rare these days.
All the best!
Josh

Check bottoms of slide sides for potential leakage. The "Gradian plates" are aftermarket solution to issue, also as preventive measure. Also make plates for floor roller support but I'm not sure of the slide build on particular year/models.
Everyone says floor plan is top thing to consider , consider with slides in for travel stops/breaks and out for use.

Not really. Monaco was going strong into 2008. My 08 Dynasty was finished in June 2007.
Slide bottom wood rot is a big issue to check out. Also check the belt line to make it is well sealed. Check for side wall delamination too.
If you hire an RV inspector, make sure they are very familiar with diesel coaches. Many aren’t. They may know trailers and fifth wheels, but DPs are an entirely different animal.

Read the posts in the Cummins subforum for info on the ISX.

07 coaches would likely have been built in 06 so age would not be a concern for me. IMO sitting with little use is a bigger concern than more miles - as seals etc dry out, rot, leak. We've had more issues with our 12.5kw genset than anything else in a 04 Sig and 110,000 miles of use.
The Dynasty was an awesome coach and far better than most built today. Pick the floorpan you like the best and get a thorough inspection. Make your first one your last one!

Just wanted to add the both the 2007 Dynasty and the 2008 Executive are great coaches. When we were looking I actually found some Executives priced the same as a Dynasty and the Executive is a higher end coach.
First, Monaco Coach filed chapter 11 in Mar-Apr of 2009. They were just beginning 2010 model year coaches. Both of the coaches you are looking at were built well before the crash.
Also, the Kongsberg chassis multiplex was introduced in 2009 models. It is a chassis wiring multiplex system and different than the Intellitec house multiplex. Neither of the coaches you are looking will have it.
I've owned two coaches with the Cummins ISX 525hp engine and both have been great. Most of the Cummins chordal #6 exhaust valve failures have been on the 650hp ISX as well as a few 600hp models.
Both coaches will be great and comparable to $600k coaches of today.
They will require some TLC as well as updates. It really helps if you can do some of the work yourself as finding a qualified RV tech is difficult and expensive.
Best of luck!

Hi All,
Again thank you all very much for your input....very helpful. My wife and I were planning to fly out and look at the coach next weekend but with the COVID surging again, we decided to hold off. Unfortunately I am extremely high risk due to multiple serious health conditions so we will have to delay our trip as my wife does not want me to go through airports, airplanes, restaurants, hotels, etc. I was going to have Oregon Motor Coach do an inspection. Boy, their inspection is the most comprehensive that I have ever heard of. It takes 2 days, they test every single item, top to bottom, inside out and suspension, mechanical and do an oil analysis of the engine and generator. Not cheap...$1300 but I suppose it could be money well spent if it finds some issues.
Well, we will see what happens over the next month. It's a real bummer but it is what it is.
Thanks!
