Looking to buy GPS

I tried to replace the battery in my Nuvi 350 and screwed something up so now it no longer works. So now I'm in the market for a new GPS. Looking for suggestions.

Thanks

I had a Nuvi 350 and pluged it into my Pressure Pro power supply which is 12 volts out. Picture was real bright for a minute. Smoked it. Stay with Garmin. Check the ones out at Sam's 1450's I believe.

We are on our second Garmin and like both. Last one is a 1450LMT and it serves us well. Still finding new things it has to offer every time we use it. It will even give phone numbers to business's!

We just picked up a new Magellan RoadMate Pro 9165T made for RV'ers, from what I can see from our use of it so far I'm really likin it,

You can program in the size of your rig and it will route you accordingly with low clearance warnings

It's point of interest includes all of the campgrounds in trailer life.

Let's you look for roadside rest areas and at the push of the button will show you all that are available for the next 100 miles.

You can add your own favorites and it will show you (e.g. all the Pilot / Flying J's, Walmarts etc. for the next 100 miles)

I find it super easy to use and with the 7 " screen so handy.

I have the Garmin dezl560lmt. It is configurable for your MH, size and weight. It also switches modes so I use it for my daily driver. I will use it in my toad when we get to that.

We are in the same boat as you. We both have smartphones and tablets with the capability, however really prefer the stronger signal we get from a stand alone GPS, as well as the ability to not lock up those devices for use during drives. Right now we are looking at the 7" Rand McNally RV GPS, and while some had trouble with it early on, it seems the latest update has fixed most of that. Love the functionality and large screen as well as the "RV moniker" that has some neat features.

Thanks everyone for your input, keep them coming. My coach came with a GPS system integrated with the camera system and it is a Garmin but it's not a touch screen which is a must. I also want the unit to be portable.

Been please with the Garmin unit I had so am leaning that way again.

As I age I grow to appreciate the 7 inch screens more and more on GPS units.

One made specifically for Rv'ers is a huge benefit so ya dont have to be a techie Guru to get it to work !

Most units could use a volume boost, my old gunshot and diver pressure damaged ears aint what they should be, try it before ya buy it, if at all possible to insure you dont divert attention to just trying to hear the durned thing !

Sure beats the olde maps and magnifying glass routines we used to go thru years ago !!!

Buy refurbished...

...and save big money. Garmin's are refurbished by the factory and come with the same warranty as a brand new ones. Just found this one online; Garmin Refurbished Nuvi 1450LM, for $112, no tax or shipping. It's a 5" with Lifetime Maps. Which is a pretty good deal when you consider Garmin charges almost $80 for just a new map!

I've owned, or given as gifts at least 5 refurbs, and I've never had a problem with any of them.

We have a Rand McNally RV GPS - the 5000 series, and really like it. We did buy a screen for it that makes it much easier to see in bright sunlight. We have had no issues with it, as some have reported.

We have a built in GPS and a smaller Garmin on a weighted dash bag. I like to set the built in unit to show a large area and navigate with the small one set to 1/2 mile resolution. I always thought the area displayed, when you ask it to navigate a route, was too small. And, you only have to keep the portable updated.

I've had both Magellan and Garmin and found the Magellan much easier to use. I was close to buying the Rand McNally, but wanted one with Bluetooth. I got a great deal on the Magellan 9165t and bought it. It has great volume for bluetooth use and hearing directions. I also like the Rest Area and speed limit features.
