I drained my tank completely and then filled it to 90 gallons to know for sure what it would hold and know it was clean. And my tank is between the frame rails of freightliner xc chassis.only about 3 ft wide.
All that said up to this point has been just testing for me, once we hit the road ill be looking at 1/4 tank for fuel as long as its readily available. I’ll probably carry a few 5 gallon cans also. I had to purge the injectors due to the empty tank and all new fuel lines and filters so thats not an issue to repeat if i did run out of fuel somehow.

2005 Dynasty, 150 gal tank.

I always tip motorhome to one side to fill, likely over 150 gal.

When light comes on 130+/- gallons to fill.

Would never run that low if planning to use generator.

A couple of times running the tank low the gen lots its prime. Learn how to reprime the gen (hold the OFF position)

Best confirm all this yourself as others have implied.

Another reason to not let your tank run low is your fuel pump uses the recirculating line to the tank to cool it. By letting your fuel run low, it can increase the temperature at the pump, as it has less fuel to circulate. This is what my mechanic told me. Low fuel equals more heat for your fuel pump. These pumps are expensive. On a machine that can run for many hours straight, why risk running it low on fuel. You need a break now and then as well. Might as well make it a fuel stop. If you need your generator in an emergency, it wont work under quarter tank. I start looking when it drops below half. Thats probably after six hours of driving anyway.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Good point with the fuel pump temp. I filled up just below half a tank. I'm glad the coach is getting a little over 11 mpg.
I was trying not to buy fuel in CA...and didn't have to.

My low fuel light comes on between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank on the gauge. At that point I can only put in about 80 gallons. I'm not exactly sure how much my tank holds, at one point in the owners manual it says 140, but back where the chart is for the capacities it says 118.

Many yrs ago I was late to work because of running out of gas .
An old codger at work , that's what we called him although he was maybe 50 ,
explained to me that it cost him the same to run near full as it does to
run near empty .
I never forgot the embarrassing lesson and still try to adhere to the practice .
I start looking for fuel at approx. 1/2 tank .
Stops are good for you , stretch the legs , take a potty break and walk the dog .

In a large vehicle ,running out of fuel is going to put you in a real mess .
If you do run out it will be hard for you to haul enough yourself in cans to prime
the system and drive to a station .
Trying to save a few dollars by trying to get farther down the road to a cheaper
area wont seem like such a great idea when wringing your hands beside the road .

As mentioned if you have a flat or some other break down you will need the
gen and perhaps for a long time .
Emergencies services can take hours sometime days to get you on the road again .

My 130 gallon tank has 30-40 gallons left when the light comes on. It differs time to time. I still don't like to see it come on!
