Magnadyne Radio replacement

I have read all the posts I could find here about replacing the M1-CDin our coach. If anyone has replaced theres recently could you provide the model of the replacement. The models mentioned in some of the posts are not available anymore. Are there any 1 1/2 din units out there or do I have to cut the hole bigger or are there filler pieces available? Thanks for any suggestions.

I do not think there are any din and a half units being made anymore. I think your best bet would be cutout and go double din if you have space.

Double din

I went from a 1 1/2 DIN radio to a double. Enlarging the hole was no problem with a pair of tin snips and a dremel. BUT! When I slid the radio in I discovered that the depth was also different.

I spent over an hour grinding & cutting before I could get the radio al the way in. Had I known that I would have selected a single din radio and used some kind of adapter or filler.

On the other hand I'm quite happy with the radio I put in. It's a JVC with Bluetooth, front & rear audio in, front & rear USB and satellite input. It works with iPods, iPhones, iPads, USB disks & memory card readers. I tested it with a 500 Gig disk through a USB adapter and it worked! It also allowed me to program the color of the display to match Freightliner green. It was worth all the grinding.

I replaced the M1 CD with the M1 LCD. The harness matched up and the whole size was the same, so no need to enlarge the whole. The face of the M1 LCD was larger as it is a double din unit.

I was trying to avoid cutting the bezel, we are in Dessert Hot Springs and I do not have proper tools.

I did not have to modify the bezel, it covers the very top of my climate control dials, doesn't interfere with them just hides a bit of the label.

Changed my 1.5 Din to a Din and used an adapter from Advance Auto. Had to make some mods to the adaptor but it worked out pretty good.

I replaced mine in my first coach with a Sony DIN. I bought the radio and adapter at Best Buy. If I remember correctly I reused the Magnadyne cage and modified the adapter, which went below the radio, just a bit. Worked out fine.

I don't hear any real difference but I am tone deaf.
