Magnum Inverter MS 2812 Fault code “DC Overload”

Magnum MS 2812 Inverter Fault code “DC Overload” sets when no a/c power and trying to use the inverter.

When I turn on the inverter I hear a humming for a few seconds then sets the “DC Fault” code

Batteries 2 years old wet cells

Specific gravity all 8 House batteries 1275-1280

All connections are clean and tight.

The Montage of pics are when in “Tech mode" ( thought it may help )

Looking for some diagnostic direction ……. Ive already paid $450.00 while on the road when this first happened and the repair lasted about 10 min …..( I think I paid $ 450.00 for a re-set )

Should I be in over my head diagnosing ?.....anyone in SE Michigan that you would recommend?

What are you trying to run off the inverter all at the same time?

VDC = a few LED lights ..... less of a load now than when I bought the coach and use all the halogen lights and with no issue.

VAC = the refrigerator ... I also made sure the electric element to the AquaHot was off

Nothing has changed as to what Ive been running off the inverter for the last 8 years.

When Im running the genny or plugged into VAC everything works fine.

This "DC Fault code" issue happened on the way on my snowbird trip back in December, that said, again if Im running the genny or plugged into VAC ..no issues for 3 months of doing so.

I also today checked the VAC circuit breaker panels inside the coach and shut off all VAC circuit breakers other then one's marked inverter and also the VDC salesman switch, shutting down the whole coach (for conversation purposes) then turned on the inverter, it hummed 3 times and set " DC Overload fault code" in a matter of seconds

I was hoping their was some self diagnostic's built into the Inverter unit and someone was going to show me what I overlooked.

Thanks for the feed back guy's

If it internally shorting out it can certainly pull too much current. On shore power the same transformer is working in reverse to charge the batteries, ( true on a xantrex ) so it will be the transistors converting dc to ac or along those lines. Much cheaper parts is my point. After a bit more thought I would like to suggest checking the large fuse at the batteries coming to the inverter. A voltage drop to the inverter would cause a fault. Check the 12v cable at the inverter when it is first turned on until it throws the code.

That would be nice

After a bit more thought I would like to suggest checking the large fuse at the batteries coming to the inverter.

I dont see a large fuse at the house batt's, but Ill take a second look

A voltage drop to the inverter would cause a fault. Check the 12v cable at the inverter when it is first turned on until it throws the code.

I tried that and didn't see any voltage drop from the cable to the post on the inverter when loaded. I get the DW to help me and check it again.

I will have to try and test again and look for a fuse you were referring to and get back with you between "Honey Do's"

Thank you

I had this same error and called Magnum Tech folks. They gave me a procedure to reset the system, and ran through all my settings. I can not remember what I changed while talking with them, but it has not occurred for the past 1.5 years.

The nice thing about Magnum inverters is they can be repaired and parts are generally available. Find a repair center near you and call them.
