Matching Cabinet stain

I'm in the process of finishing up a new cherrywood dash panel for the stereo and am ready to start applying the finish. The present stain on the cabinets is the natural cherry and I was wondering if anyone here had any experience in matching the finish. I put a little water on the surface to check on a straight clear finish but it isnt red enough. I be interested in hearing from those that have had some success in matching the finsh and exactly what products you used. (2005 Dynasty)

I have a 2004 Monaco/Safari Zanzibar and matched a number of cherry pieces recently when I redid the interior. If you can find aged cherry, it will match perfectly. Cherry wood darkens with age. I was lucky that my step dad is a cabinet maker and had old cherry boards on hand. I just put clear lacquer on them and got a perfect match. I have heard that Sherwin Williams can do stain matching.. but did not check it out to see if they actually do that.

Had a new cabinet made to go between table and computer desk at Davis Cabinets in Junction City OR. last spring in natural cherry. The wood was a lot lighter in color, they told me it would darken in time and this summer it did get darker. Now it almost matches perfect. Let it set in the sun for a few days and it will darken.

Take a piece of raw cherry and an existing cabinet door to your local paint or hardware store. Don't go to a big box store. They can usually match it pretty close.

That's what I would do, if you stain cherry to match the existing, the new cabinets will soon be a lot darker than the existing cherry. As they will age and darken rapidly while the existing will not.
