Poppa J...... I think everyone has had this issue when adding a better mattress. Adding an extra or more powerful strut is the solution, but often the bed frame/mounting brackets can't take the stress. I finally got tired of mine and welded up a better frame that still allowed me to remove the wood cover to the slide mechanism underneath. Now my wife can lift it.
In the first photo is the new assembly and a flip down center support I made when the coach was new and left it on for safety.
