Microwave Receptacle 2000 HR Endeavor

I just replaced my old nonworking inverter with a new Magnum true sine wave inverter. The receptacle for the microwave is labeled inverter. It only works if shore power or generator power is off and only running on inverter power. If I plug in the circuit is dead even with the inverter running. How can this be? Is my new inverter faulty and not bypassing the load properly?

Do the rest of the outlets work as they should.

My coach has a subpanel for the outlets controlled by the inverter, it is next to the main panel that has 2 separate breakers that feed the inverter.

From my understanding the 120 volt power from the main panel to the inverter. The inverter has 2 lines that feed the subpanel. If the inverter isn't on the power from the main panel passes through the inverter. If the inverter is on it supplies power to the subpanel.

Do you have a multimeter to be able to test voltages?

Inverter Power

I'll check it out further tomorrow. I live in Fairbanks and we had a storm go through today and dumped 6 inches of snow on everything. I was going to go out to the RV and trouble shoot it but opted not to track snow into it. I'm running the heat in it set to 48 degrees and a 150 watt light bulb in the water pump bay as it has been getting down to 20 the past couple of nights.

We are going to drive it down the Alaska Highway yet this year leaving October 1st. I was out moose hunting and base camping out of the RV for a week right after I installed the inverter. That's when I realized that the microwave receptacle was different. I was under the impression that the microwave was on the groundfault circuit in the bathroom and on the same circuit as the rest of the countertop receptacles.

I do have a multimeter to check everything out. I only have one AC panel box on the bedroom wall.

I own a 2002 Monaco Windsor which may slightly different then your 2000 HR but I would think most RV are similar.

Attached is a 120 volt wiring schematic that I got from Monaco last year, it shows how the main panel, subpanel and inverter should be wired. Fairly easy to follow. I have since requested a complete set of electrical drawings on PDF which they sent me. You may try to contact HR to see if they can supply.

What inverter did you install??? What was wrong with the original??? There should be a wiring schematic in the inverter manual to confirm connections and operations.

I have a Trace inverter, my microwave has a separate breaker in the subpanel. We can run the microwave on shore power or inverter (although we don't use it on inverter often as it is a power hog).

Good Luck

The converter/battery charger on the old one didn't work so I updated it with a Magnum 2012 inverter. I chose that one as it uses the same cables to the remote operator in the RV.The other model I looked at used cat 5 cable and I didn't want to have to run cables through the RV.

I don't have a separate breaker or sub panel for this model coach but all receptacles work properly. I was out there this morning kneeling in the snow looking at the inverter and see that I have 3 10/2 romax cables coming out of the inverter. I'm going to look at it later but I'm thinking that the installer probably hooked both output lines to one set of lugs and that there might be a separate lug for the bypass through the inverter when hooked into shore power. I'll let you all know once I get a chance to open it up and look.
