Thanks all for your help. The 1" trim piece was held in place by velcro. Once removed it exposed a stud where the top of the old frame was attached with angle connectors. Once removed, I was able to remove the microwave and the backplate that held the angle anchors for the long screws. After removing a few screws everything associated with the old Sharp microwave/convection oven was hisory.

Tomorrow a new Whirlpool regular oven will be installed in its place. With a new set of angle connectors it will be very simple to attach the top of the new microwave to the stud. There is little challenge in installing the back base bracket, particularly since I was able to identify the stud locations when I removed the old backplate.

If anyone else needs to make this change, all they need to do is read this thread and they should be on their way, at least if they have older Monaco units where the microwave is installed in the slide. Thanks again!
