Mirror maintenance

I would like to tighten things up inside one of my mirrors. Who knows how to get to the innards of these things?

Myron-

If you mean to adjust the mirror surface inside the mirror head, "Dutch Star Don" did this, I believe. You could send him a PM.

Myron, I bet there are a lot of Velvac owners who would like to do the same thing. I'm assuming you are referring to the mirrors vibrating inside the mirror head to the point that it is difficult to see what's in the image. One of my Velvac mirrors is like that, the other is steady. I opened them up and unfortunately did not see a way to improve things. I would love to see someone come up with a solution!

On my Velvac mirrors, I removed the lower, non-powered mirror to gain access to the screws that allow you to disassemble it. The lower mirror is in a flexible plastic mount and you gently, carefully pry it out. Beware unplugging the electrical plug that connect to the mirror heating grid. It looks as if it would be very easy to tear the grid and lose the connection.

Thanks for the info. You nailed the symptom Van. Quite annoying at times. If it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer. I think it may need a Watts link or steering gear change.

I had a bad problem with my passenger side mirror. It was so loose I couldn't see out of it reliably. It was especially bad at night. I called Velvac and actually talked to a tech. He was able to give me some possible reasons for the excessive shake. Mine turned out to be the adhesive that holds the mirror glass on to the pan tilt motor. I just reapplied some new glass adhesive and it was good as new. I would call them 800-783-8871.
