While taking pictures of the wiring in the Rt. front electric bay I noticed on the lower Rt. a possible missing relay. Does anybody have a relay in this place and what is it's purpose.

Mike,

Just ran out and looked at mine and I have 3 relays! I'm missing the same one as you but the 3rd I believe was added by the dealer to connect the Unified Brake. Monaco prewires the coaches for the brake and this may be the spot for the relay. The dealer just ran another one.

Mike,

If you read the labels on the wires leading to it, they should say what it's for - or at least you'll get a hint.

I checked the wires for printing and found that only one of the five wires had printing. A 18g wire that said P/Brake. I guess I'll try to get further into the loom tomorrow.

Mike,

Ok then, without knowing more, I'm gonna agree with Rex. I'll bet that relay is for Daylight Running Lights. If so, and you can see further into the loom, you may find wires marked for the low beam signal, and another marked DRL or DRL fuse.

I'll check my coach today and see if I have that same socket with no relay in it.

What did they say when you talked to them?

I checked my coach, and the relay socket that Drifter pictures above is definitely for the DRL, according to to the 2006 schematic I have. I cannot verify, however, that simply sticking a relay in there would cause the system to work correctly. Also, the system could be different on your 2004 Dip.

After some discussion, Monaco tech advised me that I need a relay known as HAMSAR. It is supposed to plug into a pigtail with white wires in the main fuse panel. Problem is there isn't a pigtail with white wires in the main fuse panel. However, there is a empty female plug mounted on the lower right side of the electrical compartment. I went ahead and ordered the relay ($57) with the hope it plugs into the above mentioned plug. That plug is the only place anything could be plugged into and it does have white wires going to it. Once I get my hands on the relay I'll be able to better see if it will work. I just went back and looked at Robin's picture and the missing relay looks like his picture except mine is mounted on the side wall instead of the back wall. I should have the realy in a couple of days and I'll let you know if it works.

I have a feeling that the "relay" that goes into that socket is not a conventional relay, but a special module with addtional parts inside, that is made specifically for a DRL kit. Hamsar makes some special modules like that, and some plug directly into a conventional relay socket. I was looking at the schematic for that socket, and sticking a conventional relay in there will not yield the desired results.

bg1800, when you get that "relay" would you look for a Hamsar part number that may be printed on it? I'd like to follow up on it with a web search and see if my assumption is correct.

OK, I'll get the part number. When I was talking to Monaco parts, the lady said she was looking up the part number. I didn't pursue that, but, I'll post it along with a picture when I get it. I should have it in a couple days.
