Monaco Bankruptcy
When Monaco filed for bankruptcy, we were left with unresolved warranty repairs to our new 2008 36 SBD Monaco motor home. Does anyone know if Monaco will ever honor these warranty issues?

Thanks. It's what I figured. Too bad, because the coach we bought had some really sloppy workmanship.

Farada Nagel, sorry, but really it's still a better coach brand than what happened with Alfa Leisure owners....Most of us have had a few QC coach issues, I call 'em bugs myself !....just remember this forum is a great place to find assistance and support, especially regarding help for coach repairs and upgrades...Hope you got a sweet discount deal on your coach.
By the way Farada, just a question do you have a four airbag chassis system or eight air-bag system.. Just wondering ?

Our motor home has the four-airbag chassis. Our latest disaster happened last night. I was lying on the bed when I heard a strange noise and the bed shook. It almost felt and sounded like a leveling jack slipping. A few minutes later I felt it again. My husband was outside and I thought that maybe he had slammed a compartment door or something. This morning I went to get something from the storage compartment under the bed. I was only able to raise the mattress a few inches, but far enough to see that the support to which the lifts were attached had come completely loose. Just another piece of sloppy Monaco workmanship. By the way, we did not get a sweet deal. Word of Monaco's financial difficulties had not gotten out when we bought ours.

Farada Nagel - also sorry to hear about the issues with your coach. We also bought new last year and had pre-approved warranty work done while the former Monaco was still in business. Those "approved" warranty claims were never paid and we've since reimbursed our service shop. As I'm sure you're aware, the "new" Monaco has no obligation to pay any warranty claims approved by the "old" Monaco. The management of the "new" Monaco even thought it was a good idea to write all of us to tell us that they weren't going to pay our claims. Note that the management of the "new" is the exact same people as the management of the "old," who built the coach and who approved the warranty claims to fix the defects in the coach. I could almost hear the "neener-neener" when I opened the envelope!
Assuming you're in the same position (pre-approved warranty claims which were not honored), you may want to consider filing a claim in the bankruptcy proceedings. If you do a search here you will find a link to the website of the company that is managing all claims. There is a very (very) small chance that you will actually get any recovery through the bankruptcy process, but it is still a greater chance than if you don't file. We've filed for our claims, and have also sent a copy to the "new" management with a polite note regarding our claims. We do not expect anything but we've done everything we can do.
If you did not have pre-approved warranty claims, then I'm afraid you really have no recourse.
All that said, and despite some additional items which have turned up after the one-year warranty period expired, we have generally been very happy with our coach. We use it mostly for short weekend getaways, and when we're out camping with all our comforts we're very glad we bought it. As DocUSA said, in general Monaco has been more reliable than other brands. Its a shame that there is no longer a company to stand behind our coaches but I hope you enjoy it while you have it!

Farada Nagel, Sorry about the bed support arm/brackets...but keep the faith, we all regardless of floorplan have a few quality control bugs in these coaches....some are minor and some can become major if allowed to get out of hand..just remember it can be fixed...My jacks use to also sometimes slip a little, then I started dumping most of all my air and leveling manually. my issue was solved.
As a side bar note: there are several Monaco coaches with the 4 air-bags systems that have had rear coach chassis concerns...You might want to take a few moments and see if your coach is effected... There's a thread listed under RoadMaster Chassis called "Trailer Arms Cracked on RoadMasters"...check it out when you can, it might/might not really be helpful especially in your case... Just remember..we're all invested owners in this forum!..and will try to be helpful where others failed!.... Of course, you could have been stuck with an ALFA Leisure coach....

Farada Nagel.....I haven't heard anyone say that they submitted a claim to the new Monaco for reimbursement and it was denied. It might be worth a shot. If they get enough of them along with negative backlash form not paying, they might reconsider.
I was breaking the pistons loose even before I put a heavier mattress on the frame. Here is a photo of what I did. It's been modified a little since. I also added a third piston and put in a drop down arm as a safety arm when the bed is up.
http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=9222
Basically, I took some metal square tubing (black bar running horizontally at base of pistons) and welded three supports and two end plates. I screwed the end plates into the side of the bed frame and the three supports were for attaching the pistons. On the underside of the bed, in the middle where the middle piston attached, I added a wooden plate approximately 10" by 10" that was attached with multiple screws to the wood frame. I then re-insalled the piston bracket to the plate. I later made smaller plates for the side pistons.

I asked them to pay for my Trailing Arms from the recall and they said, no thank you. Oh wait, they did not say thank you!

I have the highest respect for your technical expertise and ingenuity but your logic on this one has me bewildered. Are you saying that because no one has reported a denial it is possible. I would say that because I have never heard of anyone getting any warranty that it is next to impossible. I think Navistar is probably taking advice from a room full of lawyers. Should they give some warranty coverage to even one owner the ambulance chasers would interpret this as an admission of responsibility.
On another note:
The Frontier Rally will have someone from Navistar to report on the "new" corporation (now and the future). This will be interesting to all of us. I hope that those who have a large "beef" with Navistar will be polite and respectfull. Or will the execs have to be behind a cage "a la Blues Brothers".
