Monaco mud flap material

I have a 2001 dynasty with the “Monaco” mud flap. It is needing some polishing, but I’m wondering if it’s raw stainless steel that’s be polished, or is it chrome plated? I don’t want to be sanding it if it’s plated.

Pretty sure mine is chrome but it's a different year.

Monaco mud flap

I checked it with a magnet, and it’s not magnetic. Just wondering why they would chrome plate stainless steel?

I think mine is stainless since I haven't seen any rust .
You would think if it was steel it would have some rust by now ( 03 ).

Don't sand on it , I think that would create a real mess .
The Monaco name screws onto the rubber flap , you could take it off and
use a buffer on a drill or crawl down there and rub it by hand .

Actually they do chrome plate stainless sometime usually because
chrome is a different color and it will be noticeable when close together .

Good evening Ken; I was in the steel supply business for almost 30 years. I am going to say that with at least 99% sure the Monaco emblem on the mud flap is polished stainless steel. There are many polishes made for SS. Don't use anything contain some kind of grit. This will scratch the surface instead of polishing the grime off. I just use 409 and a scrub brush and then rinse with cold water. Don't let the 409 air dry. Spray the 409 on, scrub and then rinse. This works for me.

I agree with 8.3Oilburner, mine is a "96" and has no rust! I use Simple Green, spray, scrub with a brush, and rinse with water! Rail!

I saved the work,

I took mine off and mounted it in the third garage where it won't kick up any rocks into my jeep

Hard to believe after 16 years it still shines like chrome if it is polished stainless, will need to take another look.

Mud flap a]material

Thanks for all of the input. I have re-finished mirror finishes on stainless before. At this point since it only has a few deep scratches, I think it will just get cleaned and re-installed.

I lost mine last year. Rubber dried and cracked and ripped away from the support hanger. I have not replace it since a year ago and agree with you since then I have not found any grit or stones on the front end of my Jeep. I am not going to hang another on there because I truly believe they create enough turbulence to spew grit and stones on everything you tow and also impedes the flow of air under the coach. Just saying only value is cosmetic.
