Monaco Rumor Navistar Closing RV Division
Has anybody heard this. I have had two different people tell me this is going to happen. Both work at the local RV dealer here. They both said once Navistar does away with Monaco the value of the coach is going to hit the toilet??
Thanks,
Troy

Our 04 Imperial hit the toidy a few years ago when Monaco went BK and was bought out by Navistar. I had hopes that the brand would stay alive but it seems that customer confidence in it isn't there. Winnabago is going great guns and Fleetwood is making a comeback so the market is there.

Several months ago Navistar transferred its RV business to "discontinued operations" which is "accountant speak" for "we're going to either sell or close this line of business." So that part of what you heard is true. I haven't seen anything since that initial statement that indicates whether or not they have identified a potential buyer.
As for the value of your MH, IMHO there are lots of "orphan" RVs out there these days and their values don't seem to be related to whether or not they are still being produced. Almost everything important in an RV is made by a company other than the one that produces the coach (engines, transmissions, appliances, etc). Regardless of what happens to the coach builder, all those things can be serviced and maintained. IMHO very few experienced RVers expect the coach builder to do much for them after the basic warranty on the vehicle ends nor is there much of a reason for them to do so.

Your Motorhome is already depreciated at approx 65% of new MSRP give or take. so future depreciation will slow and wont matter much at this point. It just is what it is not so much because of your brand but because RVs depreciate. One plus is there were not many 2009s and newer units sold so people need to go new or go to a 08 or 07 if they want a coach.
That all being said It is my opinion Navistar will find a buyer very very soon they are now building about 25 motorhomes per week and with an industry that is improving fast. For the right price I think it could be a profitable venture for an investor/ buyer. In the mean time Navistar has been aggressive with retail programs that seem to be working and are introducing new models as well as a few 2014s

Yes, Ramblin 10 makes some very good observations. If past history in the RV business is any indicator, I would expect one of the major RV companies currently in business to purchase Navistar RV, especially if the price is palatable. The Holiday Rambler brand rights by themselves would be something some of the big RV builders would be interested in. I would keep my eye on Thor Industries. They are in very good financial shape and have been buying out other brands in the past.

The Rumor floating around at the big HR chapter 419 maintenance rally in Goshen is that in a private bidding war between Fleetwood and Thor that Fleetwood is now in final negotiations to buy Navistar RV.

Sanford since they are buying an active business, I would imagine that they would have to honor all warranties, can not see how they would get around that.

Yes Trap Navistar is not selling a bankrupt business. Who ever buys Monaco etc would probably take the whole shebang (employees and manufacturing buildings), and warranties. Coburg would I believe would still be a "service" center. It all works out. It might still be a good idea to visit the factory to resolve any issues you might have at this time with your new coach. deSanford

So far I have been treated better by Navistar & their warranty service than any other RV I have ever owned dating back into the mid 60s. Hopefully most of my problems are taken care of. Possibly Navistar is trying to bring the name of Monaco and Holiday Rambler back up since owners had big problems a few years ago. As mentioned in previous posts, engine, chassis, appliances and most other things are all other manufacturers.

I'm with you wyorancher Navistar has taken care of just about all of my 45 issues. One left, and even though I'm out of warranty I believe it will be taken care of also. My rear view camera just sees my "toad". John Hurd said to bring it back to Coburg. I like their service center and "campground". One of my favorite fish restaurants for lunch is nearby. deSanford
