Monaco Signature - Fuel Smells

We are looking at buying a 2009 Monaco Signature with almost 75,000 miles on it. The coach seems like it is in good condition. The design resulted in the fuel fill line going through a bay door. Does that cause some diesel smells to enter the storage bay? And perhaps up into the house?

I don't see how unless you spill fuel. Just my thought.

Usually fuel smells are from an over filled fuel tank or from the Aqua Hot fuel filter assembly in one of the middle basement compartments.
The Signature has dual fuel filler necks, one on each side. Open the bay door on each side and look for spilled fuel.
Then also locate the Aqua Hot fuel filter attached to the basement wall and look for spilled fuel or fuel from the filter overflow line.

A side note: The 2009 Signature has the Kongsberg integrated electrical system. Carefully check all the chassis electrical systems. The Kongsberg system used to be unrepairable but Frank McElroy (available on Monacoers) has been able to repair and reprogram modules.
Best of luck!

How can I tell if the coach has the Kongsberg system? And if it does have the Kongsberg system, does that mean a problem exists, or is it something that could possibly occur? What happens if the Kongsberg fails? How much does it typically cost for the fix?

It means you have to source someone to repair it. And apparently someone figured it out on the monacoers forums. Prior to that the rigs were dead, unable to be fixed. Literally written off entirely on insurance claims…

I would recommend becoming a member on monacoers.org and researching the heck out of the Konsgberg system before before buying the rig.

If you're smelling fuel look at the fuel tank fill where the rubber line attaches. They crack and leak.

Picture of the Kongsberg System in the above thread. Several have been saved but figure on sitting for quite awhile. That panel is outside under the driver seat bay.

Do some searches for Kongsberg and decide if you are up for it.
