Monaco Windsor Chassis

Good day, all

I'm shopping for a classic DP from the 2000-2006 era, particularly Monaco. I would really like to stay in the Roadmaster S-style chassis if possible and understand that the Windsor was built on the "S" through the 2002 model year. However, I am looking at a 2003 40PST and according to the VIN, it is on the "S" chassis (1 in position #4) has a Cummins ISL (3 in position #5), 2003 model year (#3 in position #10) and built in Elkhart (2 in position #11). This does not square with everything I have read about Windsors. I thought Windsors and above were all built in Coburn. Not true? Is it possible this unit got built on a leftover S chassis but tagged as a 2003 model year?

You guys have all been a tremendous resource over the past few months in helping us decide on what to concentrate on. I appreciate it!

My 2002 Windsor from the brochure >> Roadmaster RM8H but is called a Semi-Monocoque Roadmaster Chassis

I couldn't find a brochure from a 2003 but found a 2004 and it says it is a Roadmaster RR8S-Series Chassis

Both are side radiators and have 8 airbags. I have 4 wheel drum brakes. The 2004 has front disc.

There was a change in 2003, prior to that the body construction was full steel cage. In 2003 the side wall construction is aluminum, much lighter which may allow for higher CCC.

On the "other" Monaco site, one of the senior members posted that 2003 Windsors were built on both "S" chassis (Coburn) and RR8S chassis (Elkhart). Another posted that ALL Windsors were built in Elkhart.

Attached is a VIN plate that shows a 2003 Windsor on a "S" chassis (the 1 on the fourth position) and built in Elkhart. According to the 2003 brochure I have, Windsor chassis is RR8S.

IF all Windsors WERE built in Elkhart, I'm wondering if this coach is an early 2003 and got put on a leftover "S" chassis. It was built in July of 2002.

I'd really like to have an "S" coach, but how can you tell without taking a wall apart?

Thanks,
Graydon

Not sure visually if you can see the difference.

I don't have a 2003 brochure to look at.
My 2002 brochure shows the wall and ceiling structure attached to lower structure. The upper structure/frame is metal.

On the 2004 brochure it shows only the lower chassis structure. My understanding is the wall framing is aluminum.

If you had a super strong magnet you might get it to stick on the sides of the 2002 model where the framing is.
On a 2004 it wouldn't stick.
