Monitoring Onan Generator

Greetings

I have a 2000 Monaco Dynasty, 40' DS, Zantrex 3200 Freedom Inverter.

What I'd like to know is if anyone has installed or has a way to monitor the power being supplied/used for the 7.5 Onan QD GenSet. We run ours when traveling and I get curious how it's doing, Temperature, Oil info, there is no internal monitor in coach to tell if all is good til it's not.

Any ideas on this.

Hi Trace; On my 01 Windsor it came with the optional Energy Management System monitor. Not sure it was an option in the 2000 model years. This monitor is located in the cabinet with my tank level and slide out switches over the passenger seat. It shows how many watts is being produced by the gen when it is running and has other features also. Sorry, without going out to the coach I can't remember the name of the manufacture. If you Bing or Google Energy Management System Monitor for motorhomes I am sure it will pop up and give you all the details of what the monitor does.

Now to monitor the coolant temps and oil pressure from the gen. is a different matter. So far I have not seen an, inside the coach system, for that info. I think someone else might have some info on that information. Hope some of this info helps!

Some of the older ones did. By 2000 they will shut down and not hurt themselves.

A member did post or add to one, installing a remote pair of small analog gauges on the dash in last year or so. Google found it if link works went to taptalk.

I have Victron Multiplus inverters which give me the energy usage from generator or shore power. It's very accurate. Also plan to connect its auto gen start relay.

As to the other info like oil/coolant temp, I think it has some light blink code to indicate errors. But don't feel the necessity to get the accurate data.

I have the same genset - the wiring diagram references an optional remote panel that shows total time, oil px, water temp, and volts.

That panel is the 300-5218 or 300-5027 depending on the spec of your generator.

Looks like about 400 for panel and 90 for a 10' harness not sure on the senders. A pair of cheap 52mm gauges with senders starts at about $30 on EBay.

I'd talk to one of the new electronic data monitor systems like Bluefire and ask them if they have a way to connect.

It's not on ECM bus data link so it wouldn't work. There's a couple guys on here that could build Raspberry PI to Bluetooth or LCD smarter than I.
Bluefire...They couldn't tell me what I would see if any on M11 Celect ECM even if added 9 port com plug. They didn't seem interested to help or look into it at all. The bus protocols are beyond me. Pretty much got the brush off as far as I'm concerned. I knew not to expect all the data of much newer ECMs. I might have just been happy to see any trouble codes. I couldn't even get the register email after a month of trying to even ask on BF forum it finally went through. That's my Bluefire rant. For those who are supported I'm glad it works for you seems sweet to basically 2nd set of possibly more accurate gauges if dash one is wacky as well as extra data.
