Navistar Press Release

Here is one paragraph from a recent press release:

Engine -- For the second quarter 2012, the engine segment recorded a loss of $108 million, compared with a year-ago second quarter profit of $2 million. Segment sales decreased by 6 percent due to lower sales volumes in South America and a pre-buy of pre-Euro V emissions engines in prior quarters. The segment results include $78 million in pre-existing warranty costs primarily for 2010 emission standard engines.

What exactly is the problem with the engines that cost $78 million? There is also reference in that press release re problems having engines meet EPA standards. The other Diesel engine mfrs. are going to love that!!! Maybe they will end up with DEF engines in the end!

Glad I don't have any Navistar stock and glad I have an old Cummins that does not require the fluid or an after burner.

There are a lot more rumours floating around about the future of Navistar. The vultures are circling including VW and Carl Icahn. If there is a takeover or sale I would put money on Monaco being sold or just shut down. If I were in the market for a new MH Monaco would not be on my short list.

Sure wish I could have bought some shares last thursday when they dropped to $20.00 see there back up to $29.00 this morning. That would have been a nice profit.

Now unless our place sells in the next couple of weeks, we'll probably postpone getting a coach until next year. So that will give us some time to se what developes. Still think the 43DFT is thee best floorplan on the market (at least for us)

I'm hoping that Navistar gets going on full production of the Opposed Piston-Opposed Cylinder engines and they start putting those in motor homes. This engine is amazing and way ahead of it's time.

gramkeel: Don't hold your breath waiting for that engine. Interesting concept but probably will never see the light of day. There are no pictures on the web site of that company for an actual engine. Just animated drawings. The videos are very old and they talk of having a gasoline version ready for automobiles in 2010 that will give 100mpg. Well here we are in 2012 and there is no working model! Most of these concepts either never are bult or it can take decades. Reminds me of the Mazda rotary engine!!

All this talk is really starting to make me extremely nervous. Was just getting ready to purchase a 2013 Knight, but this is starting to look like 2008 all over again...
