Need A Little Help With My Tire Pressures

I know there is a ton of info on tire pressure on this forum. I would like to direct this question to the Monaco/HR owners with roadmaster S. Just weighted our coach: With 150gals fuel 900lbs / 50gals water 300lbs / 10 batteries (8 6v / 2 12v) / normal household stuff.

Steer Axle : 14,400 120 lbs Adjust to?
Drive Axle : 21,400 110 lbs Adjust to?
Tag Axle : 12,700 110 lbs Adjust to?

Tag down pressure is: 48 psi Adjust to?

Tires are Goodyear 11R x 22.5's

I know I am asking for opinions, so please give me yours based on what we are driving.

Thank you for your opinions.

Opinions? Why not go to the mfgs inflation tables for REAL numbers rather than opinions?

BTW, my reading of the mfgs. brochure (which could be wrong) indicate an over gross wt. condition as the tag is limited to 10,000 lbs.

You need another trip to the scales, weight left then right or so called 4 corners.

for example Steer Axle : 14,400 do you think you nave 7,200 on each side?

After re weigh use the higher weight + 10% side against the charts.

Agree, more info would help with our opinions

We don't know your GAWR for each axle,
but if like mine:
13k steer
20k pr 24k ? drive
10k tag

find out your gawr's and the axle weights, and go here :
http://www.goodyearrvtires.com/pdfs/rv_inflation.pdf for the psi need to support that weight...
as a starter use what's on your mfg's posted placard.

then yes, you may be over weight and need to adjust tag pressure

Left to right - It is generally considered best to have the same pressures on all tires on any one axle. (Besides, on the road, with crowns, and large holding and fuel tanks, your side-to-side weight will shift A LOT depending on the road design) I definitely wouldn't have different pressures left to right.

Tag axle - We actually made several runs over the scales, and tweaked the tag axle pressure regulator before each pass, until we had the load that we wanted on the tag. (Decreasing load on the tag also decreases the load on the front axle. That's a good thing.)

Our coach weights are: Front - 14,800 Drive - 15,600 Tag - 8,400 Total - 38,800
Our inflation goals are: Front - 117 psi Drive - 80 psi Tag - 80 psi

Tire wear has been minimal at 56,000 miles, other than the rivering on the Goodyears on the steer tires that caused me to replace them (twice!!). We actually did all eight of them since the other six were at 9 years of age, a year ago.

On our coach, the numbers worked out great! The Goodyear tire inflation tables put the fronts at 116.5 and the drive and tag (if you interpolate their numbers) at 59 and 55, respectively. However they have a minimum inflation of 80. So lots of margin on the rear. The numbers are easy! Fronts are easy to keep at between 115 and 120, and all of the others at 80, plus or minus a couple.

I really like our PressurePro TPMS!

Thank you for the opinions that are coming in. I forgot to mention the GVWR is 43,000 at S 13,000 D 20,000 T 10,000 . Also my Goodyear tires are H rated / 16 ply. More opinions the better especially about tag psi down pressure.

Correct me if I'm not reading this right. You're 5500 pounds overweight with the three axles being 11%, 7% and 27% overweight and you're wondering what to set the tires at???
That's kind of like rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic isn't it?

According to the brochure for your coach, the GVWR IS 46,160. 15,160 on the steer, 23,000 on the drive and 10,000 on the tag.

Based on that, if you back off on the tag pressure somewhat, it will get some weight off the steer and still be ok on the drive axle.

http://holidayrambler.com//library/2..._navigator.pdf

You should be able to back off your tire inflation on the drive and tag to 100 psi and still have a good margin of safety.

Thank you all for the info and thanks Steve for the 06 HR 45PBQ brochure. I was reading the wrong chart for my coach and there is a big difference from 43,000 and 48,160.

06 brochure : 48,160 / S 15,160 / D 23,000 / T 10,000

My weight after re-weighting without my toads front wheels on the tag scale:

46,520 / S 14,400 / D 21,420 / T 10,700

Now I will adjust the drive & tag to 100psi and reduce the tag pressure from 48psi to 42-45psi. That will reduce the steer pressure a little. If I have missed something, please let me know.

Happy Camping

Never mind the brochure. What does the information tag inside the coach say? It will give the GVWR, GAWR (front) and GAWR (rear). Those are the number to go by.

You may or may not have optional front end and axles.

Our coach does not agree with the brochure as we have an optional front axle that adds 1000 lbs GAWR.
