Need help with a Cal. emissions sticker

Well, I have jumped through all the hoops I can without some help. Can anybody suggest what I do to obtain a California emissions sticker? I have registered, paid fees and gone through the inspection process today but they can't find the emissions sticker that should be under the hood. It passed smog with flying colors and the smog guy said it was everything that it should be. So, I contacted Monaco hoping they could help me but they say that since our coach was made by Fleetwood and that they went bk in 09 they couldn't help. I also can't find the U.I.D. tag with the Monaco serial number. It was supposed to be on the outside of the coach under the driver's window but it's not there. I have searched high and low but cannot find it. I found the vin tag and the Workhorse tag but no Monaco tag. Can any of you more astute folks help this old guy before he has a stroke?

Usually the emission decal is on the engine. either the valve cover or front timing gear cover.

Even if you have a gas engine in a Class-C (which has a Ford or Chevy cab) with the emissions decal on the radiator support, there would still be a decal on the engine.

What engine do you have?
If you cant find the decal on the engine, the engine manufacture should be able to order you a new decal.

Why do you need the emission tag if the Coach passed emissions inspection?

Well, the state of Screwyfornia demands a sticker on the vehicle stating that no matter where it hails from, it is compliant with the state. Anyway, what I found out, after many trying phone calls and emails is that I have to take it to a referee at a local place to have him/her place a sticker on the vehicle to assure the smog gods that it is all legal. Just another nail in the coffin. We can't get out of here soon enough. $1857 to license it here and from what I hear we could do it in Tennessee for $80.

Ford usually puts it on the air cleaner housing, not sure where Workhorse puts theirs but did you check under/behind the hood or on the side of the valve cover?

The emission tag will be on the chassis or engine and is NOT Monoco related, it has to be on the chassis/engine when the bare chassis left the manufacture ( my guess is it will be located on the engine itself and you will need the vin should you have do some searching for a replacement.

Perhaps this will give you some direction https://www.epa.gov/importing-vehicl...ular%20vehicle.

My guess is that it blew off somewhere on the highway at some point. I have an appointment for a phone call from a state referee Monday or Tuesday. He will probably have me bring the m/h to the check point not far from me. He will have to verify everything is correct and install a fresh new sticker. Only in California.

I'm not sure what "U.I.D" is.

But there should be a "decal" inside the Coach (mine is behind driver's seat on the wall. Some have it on the back side cabinet door on the driver's front overhead). It would look something like the one from my Coach (photo below).

This is the most important decal as it has the critical weight limit info (GVWR, Axle Weights and Tire Pressures). If you are missing this you need to do some research and be sure to know those weight limits.

There is also a decal on the outside of my Coach at the entry door, which states the Manufacture "Unit Number", and the RVIA compliance decal/number. I read about another irv2 member that had a problem getting title or registration because he didn't have the RVIA decal. But I think he was importing from US to Canada or maybe viseversa.

As 'Randalpho' stated inspect the air cleaner housing. When the coach chassis is delivered, to the RV manufacture, the emissions decal should already be affixed by the engine manufacture. Ours coach has the decal attached to the back side of the air cleaner housing.

Being a former CA Smog technician, the CARB regulations are pretty fun to comply with at times. Do yourself a favor and get another set of eyes in the engine bay. Going to the Referee is not fun, and often you need to bring them supporting documents.

Good luck.

I had a 2007 Holiday Rambler ( Monaco ) and the emission tag was on the air cleaner housing, very hard to see. We had to take a picture of it to show the inspector ( standing there when I took the pic. ).

Yep, I retired from the State of Kalifornia in 2000, got the hell out and moved to the right coast and just bought a house in TN for my last retirement. Dirt cheap compared to the nut bag state and all their nut bag regulations. But yes they want to see a Smog Sticker that says the vehicle is 50 state compliant on the chassis.

The Rest of the Story

UPDATE.....Well, I have been through 9 kinds of Hell for the last few days but I finally found the right person. For anybody who has a Workhorse chassis, I strongly suggest using the folks at Ultra RV Products up in Washington state. They are an authorized Workhorse dealer. I had exhausted every avenue of California state officials and offices and then someone suggested I call Chevrolet parts department. I did so and was then sent to a Chevy dealer who was a Workhorse dealer. They sent me to Workhorse Corporate who then sent me to Ultra. When I was greeted by a great guy by the name of Jay Latham. I explained what my predicament was and he knew exactly what I needed and how to get it. He emailed me a photocopy of the original sticker and for an additional $24 ($14 for the sticker and $10 for Fedex) he is sending me a new sticker that I can affix to our motor home. I took the photocopy to AAA and they accepted it. I came home with plates and tags. I'm now a happy camper but we still can't wait to move out of this God forsaken state. I hope anybody who finds themselves in this mess finds this posting and can get their problem solved by know who to contact. Case Closed!

You said you bought a home in Tenn but your signature says N.C. Where do you live? If it's TN where abouts are you? We are going to be looking in the Knoxville area but open to any and all suggestions. We have friends in Dandridge and around Knoxville so that's what is taking us in that direction. I'd love to hear more about your experience there.
