Need ideas on door slide...

Not a big bother except that it takes herculean effort to slide it back from the inside...
but the plexiglass insect shield that slides over the handle is SO tight I'm looking for suggestions.

When the wife leaves just the door open and wants the screen closed, she will slide the plexiglass to the right to keep out bugs...

but can't hardly slide it back when just using shallow finger slots...
especially if outside door shuts and the handle is blocked...
ideas please for a handle on each side to be able to slide it back?(going to clean out the slide tmo with formula 303, but ... ?)

I would check the length of the pop rivet at the top (holds the arm that holds the screen in) for being too long and hitting the plexiglass. I put a small piece of bark in the bottom track (on the left) stopping the plexiglass from sliding all the way open... you can grab the end making it easier to close.

If the pop rivet is not the problem I would spray the tracks with silicone.

Drill a hole and install a drawer knob to give you something to get leverage on. They make clear ones

X 2 on the clear silicone spray. Mine was very tight and the silicone really loosened it up.

You can remove the plexiglass by bending the panel slightly (this is described in my owners manual) then sand off the bottom edge about 1/16" (a power belt sander would be best to get a straight edge).

Thanks... I USED to be coordinated, but I'd break it for sure

(course, then I wouldn't have to worry about it being in the way ! )

I just fixed mine. I took the plexiglass slide out by binding it in the middle until it came out and sanded the top and bottom of the plexiglass slide and rounded the edges a little. It took two times before I got it correct.

Warm it up with a heat gun or hair dryer before you try and bend it. I live in Lake Havasu it was 118 degrees outside when I removed mine.

Verify that the top and bottom channels are not bowed.

Once you have a drawer knob on it, your life will be easier.
