New A/C for 2001 Dynasty

I’m reading the new ones are not as good but...
Front one (4button) display is dead. Haven’t pulled cover yet but swapped display to rear AC and it works fine.
Turned on rear ac and sounds like the squirrel cage is going out(;

Options?

Back in 2015 my front AC started to draw higher amps and periodically kick the breaker. It was also getting louder.

Checked the motor and it was almost froze up so I ordered a replacement ~$125. In the process of changing the motor I found that the rubber supports for the motor were wore out letting the fan blade hit the metal. Changing the motor solved all the problems.

With the cost, and problems (especially the reversing valve) that have been posted on the IRV2 forum for AC with heat pumps, you would be better off just buying a A/C without heat pump and just use your furnace when needed?

I used my data card to determine which AC unit I had and SN. It was a Dometic, at that time you could access their website and get parts schematic for you units, however, the site is now dealer restricted.

I got my new motor from Adventrure RV, it was an open box special but it was the right one. S110-464663 was what the invoice showed but this is the part, it is more expensive now. I did a quick search and PPL has it slightly cheaper but don't know about shipping or tax.

https://www.adventurerv.net/dometic-...t-p-21975.html

The job itself wasn't hard other then having to wrestle with the metal shroud and motor assembly. I took it off together to get the fan blade off. While I had it apart I did a thorough cleaning, blowing out the condenser and evaporator with compressed air and cleaning the outside fan blade with water and a brush when it was out. The one on the inside was cleanable with compressed air and I left it in place so I didn't have to completely dismantle the AC unit on top.

Here is a parts manual I was able to find for my AC units, yours may be different.

04 Dynasty...I’ve had to raise the fan motor to keep the squirrel cage from dragging and when that didn’t work on another one... I had to move the squirrel cage further from the motor. They are NOT rubbing on the circumference, they are rubbing on the end/side.

My 08 Navigator has the same heat pumps and the front one has something that hits the vanes, but not bad enough to tear into it, yet.

Jeff, I got one here https://www.boatandrvaccessories.com...uin-3108706924

It was about 136 with shipping. I guess they raised the price since I got mine.

Not to tough of a job. The squirrel cages have a slot or cutout where the screws that hold them on to the shaft. It took me a while to figure that out.

People have had mud daubers build nest on fan as well, if it sounds like rubbing fan blade.

Great info. Thank you. The front dead display turned out to be a simple fix. The female/female phone cable connection in the ceiling unit had a bad connection. Unplugged it and blew it out and it works.
Will open the back one Monday and update the thread. Thanks again

(1) motor and (2) blower wheels are cheap any commercial air conditioner distributor will have components. Motor 50-60 buck wheels 10-15 bucks each.''if the refrigeration side is good rebuild the blower assembly. clean condenser and evaporator coils and you should be golden. Find a HVAC van in a neighbor hood and pay the guy cash to fix it. 100 buck labor will probably get it done.

The refrigeration side is the expensive part the rest are swap parts.
