New Diesel CARB Regulations California

1997 Holiday Rambler Endeavor diesel CAT I have done everything they have asked. I called testing shops and they told me they could not due a smoke test because I do not have a secondary DEF system? I just renewed my DMV tags and they are on hold. When you call for help I get no answers just robot references to more rules. I don’t understand their updates. It doesn’t show me what to do next or what test I need specifically! I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, John T PS I call them and there is 180 people in que

Exactly what month are your tags due?

If this month or next, all you need is to be registered on CARB and pay the $30 fees for both 2023 and 2024.

If your tags are due in January 2025, or later, you need to do the above AND have it smogged. All that is needed is an Opacity test. There aren't alot of guys out there yet doing that particular test, so you may have to call around.

New diesel CARB regulations California

Thank You! My tags were due and paid in October 2024. So I will take your advice. My confusion is the CARB Clean Truck registration sends out an updated status form letter that shows tests due and fees due and so on that says nothing due. But my DMV tags have been held until Carb sends them a form to release them?

There are quite a few threads about this. It's sometimes very confusing and some information is just plain wrong.

Since your registration was due in October, all you have to do is register here.

https://cleantruckcheck.arb.ca.gov

Then pay $30 for 2023 and 2024 ($60 total plus a few dollar service fee). Then CARB will clear your DMV registration (that takes a few days, so be patient--they are slow). The CARB deadline was earlier this year, so not sure if there are late fees or not. Maybe you can tell us after you're done.

If anyone is telling you to smog your coach now , they are wrong. But you will need to do it next year.

The test (next year) is an opacity test. They look for smoke coming out of your exhaust. I think it's 20%, but don't quote me. They also look to be sure you haven't modified your exhaust system. Who ever mentioned a "secondary DEF" to you, go somewhere else or educate them.

Bill, It is over about this. Thank You I finally got a CARB person and hammered on him to submission in emails.. He had to populate the fee part @Clean Truck Check in order to let me pay for the 2024 fee! Yes no test due this year Thank You John

I had to call DMV and the person I talked to had to release my registration because the CARB people didn’t get it done.
The next day I went to AAA and got the sticker.
I waited two months after I paid the registration and got nothing. One call to DMV and it was done.

Use AAA, they will give you a tag on site, if you've paid the '23, '24 fees. Funny, I passed my inspection and opacity test, even though my moho has been in the garage since the end of October.

My registration was due December 7th , I paid DMV fees, the end of September, registered with CARB the first week of October and paid the $60.00. Never heard back from DMV that CARB was "Approved". Heard AAA would give a "25 sticker, which turned out to be true. Zero communication between DMV and CARB, other than to put the hold on registration till you pay up. Registrations due in '25 will be different, unless they postpone the testing requirement, until it becomes more accessible.

CARB and DMV don't talk to each other. If you have done all the CARB and got your clean report (paid your $30) Then you can go into DMV and get your tags. I had to do that otherwise you would not see your tags.
