This goes beyond my comprehension, but I read somewhere that the output characteristics of inverters (especially modified square wave inverters, with their various harmonics, etc.) can vary with changes in both the load they are servicing and also variences in input current, which both change over time.
Someone once compared inverters to camels... They will carry a very large load a short distance, a medium load a longer distance, and a small load all day long. And sometimes, seemingly without reason, they will bite you or kick you.
