new member...looking for help

Hi folks, I'm new and not too savy about how and where to post a question.
I just bought an older Holiday Rambler 36ft and have a problem with the "hot water" system. (atwood circuit board)
I googled some info on how to check the board but don't want to chuck it until I'm sure it is the problem.
My hot water "on off" switch glows dimmly when "off" and brightly when "on"
but I have no response at the heater at all.
If anyone can direct me to the proper area to ask for help with this I would be grateful for the help.
thanks

Moon,

Welcome to irv2. May I suggest a little more information such as year and model of your Holliday Rambler. Also what type of problem do you have with the water heater? Running on propane? Running on electric? If the problem is on propane is it because it want ignite. If on electric what are the systems?

Bob

Howdy moon12 and welcome aboard. Sorry to hear of your problem and hope you get it straightened out. If you go back to the Main Forum page and scroll down, you'll see RV System and Appiances. You may try posting the question in that area for more response. Good Luck.

Hopefully you have a voltmeter and know how to use it. The first thing you want to do is go to the outside of the heater. Break all connections and check they are all clean and tight. Don't miss the green ground wire. Also make sure your batteries are charged. The heater will not work if it gets less than 11v.

Turn the switch on in the coach. The brown wire is the 12v + wire and it runs to the TSTAT (thermal switch) if the tank is cool, it sends power out the other side to the control board. If no power comes out, the TSTAT is bad. Once power reaches the control board, it sends power out on the red wire to the E.C.O. (another thermal switch) if the tank is not hot, power goes out the other side to open the gas valve and the control board powers the black wire running to the igniter.

At this point, gas should be flowing, the igniter sparking and ignition should occur.

If power is getting to the board on the brown, but not comming out on the red, the board is bad. If power is not coming out the other side of the E.C.O., it is bad. If power gets thru the E.C.O. and there is no sparking at the igniter, either the board or the igniter are bad.

Other operational problems is a bad gas valve, insects/debris blocking the gas or air flow (common) to the igniter and combustion chamber.

Here's more if you need it.

thanks you all

Thanks everyone, I've got lots of ammo to work with now!
I'll get right on it after I finish my coffee
(answers to some earlier responses)
My "new unit" is a year 2000 class A 36ft.Holiday Rambler "Admiral" on the Ford Super Duty V10 chassis.
The heater is propane only and nothing happens when I turn the switch on except the "toggle" lights up brightly.
When the "toggle" is in the "off" position it glows a dull red...

I'll post when I find a solution....

Well, I certainly feel like a dummy
The owners manual said my unit had "propane only" water heater and I totally missed the location of the 12volt switch (located on the panel with 12v pump switch, battery & tank levels,)
It turns out my unit has 110v element (inoperative) & Propane.
She fires up on propane just fine when I push the right button!!
I should have realized that the switch I was using had the large face plate and a "toggle" just like any other 110volt light switch
Sooo now it's on to the next problem...leaking hydraulic leveler jacks
thanks again to everyone who helped!
I hope some day I can be helpful to others.

I didn't realize that any MH used a HWH that is propane only! I learn something new every day on this forum!

If you goto their site. You can down load the schematic. I just did that. I needed a new board. Bought it on eBay.
