And we had NEVER heard of one that didn't.

Newmar allows highline owners to stay in their MH during service.

North Trail RV allows customers to remain in their MH.

Parkview RV allowed me to stay in my MH during service.

I've never believed it was an insurance issue, but an excuse to keep the customer out of the way, but in some cases it would be impractical and unsafe depending on the type of service.

This may be a little off topic, but does anyone know what type of work Monaco in Coburg is doing? Is it a full-service RV Center? Can they do the brake recall work on the Workhorse chasis? How about the Norcold recall work? We live less than an hour away from Monaco in Coburg. We are on the waiting list with Guaranty in Junction City to do the brake recall work. We were also on the wait list for DSU just outside of Portland but are a little fearful of driving that far with the brakes. Currently we are due to go to Guaranty in Junction City in a couple of weeks. Our 2002 Holiday Rambler Vactioner needs the rubber around the two slides redone and there are a few other things we might like to have done and checked out. Thanks for any info.

Well I am sure that after I post this I will be as popular as a skunk at a garden party. I have owned a auto and rv repair in the same location for 27 years and I can say for sure that my insurance company does limit the customer from being in the work bays. Like most shops I try to use good sense in inforcing that rule. I understand customers wanting to see whats going on on there motorhome and some customers love to stand and talk to the tech as he works on the job. Sadly the same customer who likes to talk to you while you work will be the one who lets you know you forgot to tighten a clamp or you left a tool in his motorhome because the tech was being distacted as he worked. I believe you have the right to know what your being charged for but if you feel you need to see everything he is doing to make sure you do not get ripped off you may want to find a new shop to get your work done. I have a lot of customers who have been with me for over 20 years and they do not need to watch me to know we will not do work that is not needed and that we will do a good job and if anything goes wrong we will take care of the problem. Sorry if I have hit a nerve but only a year ago a lady in my shop tripped on a air hose on friday afternoon and we herd from her lawyer by the next week. So there will be no customers in my work bays period.

That's what I want to hear from a shop owner. I would go there and give them a try for sure. I think this owner would keep me informed and allow me to understand what they were doing. Too bad other repair shops don't have his reputation and work ethic. Where are you located?

Just returned from the Monaco service center in Coburg and the service bay policy has gotten to the ridiculous stage. The service writers were even embarrassed. You now have to sign a waiver form, wear a security badge, and be under constant escort to visit your coach. What a joke, thanks Navistar. They took what used to be a nice experience, made you feel like part of the family, and turned it into just another crummy, impersonal service. On a side note, the technicians there are the best.

Didn't see too many coaches being built at the factory or work being done at the service center. The buzz around the area is not good for the new Monaco. The rv dealer lots in the area are full of inexpensive new towables and used class A's.

I'm telling ya, someone got hurt and sued thus the new regulations.. I'm surprised it took this long as most repair shops have been doing this for about 15 years..

Thank you JimmZ. When I was a service advisor we never allowed customers in the service area. Of course we allowed people to see what the tech was doing and why. If people do not trust the shop they need to find another!!

One thing to keep in mind is that in 2001 Navistar had 5 people shot and killed and 4 people wounded at their Melrose Park Plant Since that time Navistar has some of the tightest security policies as well as very strict best practices policies. I don't think you can blame them for being up tight. I also agree with Moisheh and that it is very unsafe and for both the customer and the techs. Recently I read about a tech who was backed over because a customer decided to move their coach.
Deal with people you can trust and do good work and you won't have to worry about it.

Nope, that's not why. According to the service writers, it came down as a directive from Navistar, no reason given. Only place in 15-20 shops we've had work done on our coach that will not let customers stay in their rig while work is being done. Stupid policy that is inconvenient to say the least.

Very good service in Coburg. The only problem I had to deal with was my 3 cats in the motor home. So each day I would put them into their carrying boxes and relocate them along with their "sand-box". Then the wife and I would go shopping using our Mini. deSanford
