New NHTSA recall on Monaco coaches?
Got an email stating that my '09 Camelot has been redalled for a safety issue. Has to do with the steps:
"The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert-brand Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps. These steps use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. This bolt may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable."
This recall was issued by Allied Recreation Group. The NTHSA recall number is 15V872. So can I expect a call from Allied telling me I have to take my old, out of warrant, previous manufacturer Camelot to an Allied dealer for a free fix?

My Camelot has a single step. I assume yours is.

Yes, mine has a single step also. But I'm wondering if this means Allied will be responsible for all future recalls, if any?

My Camelot step must have been made by Ford cuz it's Fix Or Repair Daily. The center pivot bolt must be removed about twice a year to be cleaned and lubed. Step always fails in the extended position.

Thanks for the post !!!
Mine is in for exactly this thing right now...
the center bolt broke when I stepped on it...
How did you find this ?
Why it didn't show up when I looked by vin number ???
Spoke to ARG and they say no recall...
but the recall may be from Lippert - so will try to call them
Spoke to Lippert finally - repair kits are not available yet and no eta...
before any work is done, you are supposed to call Lippert at 574-537-8902....
So sounds like I have to pay for the repairs.

Lippert is ACTUALLY RESPONSIBLE
Here is the original Lippert NHTSA recall.
Lippert to Recall 47,350 Coach Step Electric Entry Steps
Lippert is taking responsibility. Therefore the Orphaned ARG Coaches (like my 2009 Camelot) SHOULD be covered. There is NOT a lot of detail about WHICH steps.....and the Camelot has the Single retractable Step....so I do do NOT know if the Camelots are included.
Lippert site is a little vague and the term "RECALL" got no hits in a search.
Time will tell.
Since ARG purchased Monaco from Navistar and Navistar bought Monaco in Bankruptcy, I ASSUME that there is NO liability from ARG. That was the case on the Failed IOTA ATS. The Navistar produced MH's were covered. BUT the ones made my Monaco PRE-Bankruptcy were NOT...

Yeppers, ours is included, but responses from ARG, Monaco, Lippert, are
So I'll get it fixed on my dime...

The bolt broke on my 2011 Monaco Knight with the 2 steps. Called Lippert for a replacement bolt and they said it was not available but I may qualify for free replacement of the steps. I had to send them pictures of the broken bolt/steps and coach info and they sent me some files of the different Kwikee steps they now make to pick out the one I need. They sent me a complete new kwikee step unit free of charge. Received it in about 2 weeks.

From what I have seen, Lippert has just initiated the recall, and as required by law, has notified all those to whom they sold the defective steps (mainly RV manufacturers), who in turn notified those purchasers they know of. Lippert is financially responsible for the recall, not the RV manufacturers. Typically the RV manufacturers will provide the VINs of RV's which have the defectives steps to Lippert. Lippert will then send the VINs to a company that has legal access to vehicle registration data for all 50 states and they will provide Lippert with a list of current registrants. Lippert will then send recall notices to all current registrants with instructions on how to have the recall fix installed. Details of what the fix will be and who will do it are apparently not yet been determined.
I suspect Lippert has never had a recall before, certainly not one of this magnitude ($$$), and are going through a steep learning curve. I also suspect that RV manufacturers are as much in the dark as we are.
BTW, NHTSA (the Government) does not issue recalls. The law requires manufacturers to issue recalls. If a manufacturer fails to issue a recall when they should have, the consequences are severe ($$$$$$$).

We're booked into Coburg Service Center in April and they said they would take care of the recall then.

We DID get ours replaced by a Shop here in Texas, but like I've learned over the years, I documented it all well and sent pics, forms, etc. to Lippert and they cut checks twice a month, mine will be sent out on the 16th for the retail cost of the steps, the shipping cost, and one hours labor
