What change did Dish make that was supposed to make things stop working?
The changes were in the encoding of the signal. This would not let some automatic dishes automaticly find the satellites. I think March is when it was fully implemented.
Our Wineguard Dome was affected. Last fall it started acting weird and had a very hard time locating. This spring would not work at all. Called Wineguard after I replaced with a Travelr and they confirmed that was the problem. So in the trash the dome went.
Wineguard did offer discounts on Refurbished or New units if your dish is affected by the changes.

Dish dropped the older compression transponders in favor of newer higher compression. This killed off old Dish receivers and apparently older domes too.

Hi John!

I didn't feel like spending another $60 for the cable, but the Trav'ler has a another 4 prong plug in the back of the box that accepts this "stow" cable. You wire it to the ignition and it will force the stow of the dish even if it is left on. I may still do it as I seem to look right past the little antenna reminders.

I have noticed many sites now list the stow cable as discontinued.
