No DC power to motorhome

I have a 2006 Monaco Knight diesel motorhome and was justwondering if anyone could help locate a problem. I am getting no DC power to the home. A couple times the power went off and i touched the power cutoff switch and all DC power came back on. Yesterday the DC power went off again but the cutoff switch didn't work. just clicked. Any ideas would be helpful. It's cold in Florida today and no furnace...Thanks

If you can find your house battery disconnect solonoid, you can bypass it with a heavy jumper wire to see if you get power back...Hopefully someone with your model coach will chime in to give you the location of the solonoid...

Either your batteries are going bad, converter not working or the switch is bad. Try to jumper across the switch to see if your power comes back on.

There is a large relay/solenoid in the front run bay under the driver's window. It will have a large battery cable on each side and two smaller wires. This relay is controlled by the switch by your front door to turn off the lights and is commonly called a Salesman's Switch. It is not needed except for convenience and can be eliminated. Disconnect and tape off the small wires, but not together. Then disconnect the two large wires and connect them together and tape them up real good. Use the battery disconnect switches in your battery bay to turn off the battery power to the coach.

The picture below will give you the idea but may not look exactly like what you have.

That relay is known to go bad but I've had no trouble with it....I have a cable ready to jump it god forbid it happens to me...because it also controls 12 volts to the AC/Fridge etc and if it goes, despite the fact you have shore power, you still need those 12 volts for the control boards.

I have a 2006 Camelot and have had the same problems. In the rear electrical compartment where the house and chassis battery cut-off switches are located is also a "breaker" switch. Its has a yellow arm and is either on or off. Mine flips sometimes. If I turn it off and then wait a minute and turn it back on power comes back. There's also a fuse right there by it - 20 amp I think. Check it.

Just might be a loose connection at the switch. I would check that for sure! Be sure to post the conclusion.

Best of Luck

i did what REX advised and everything is working fine now. It must have been a defective solenoid. I think I will keep it bypassed but purchase a new one just in case. The only think that doesn't work now is the cutoff switch near the door

Your switch by the door won't work as you took it out of the circuit when you bypassed the solenoid.

Please remember, especially if you leave the coach for a period of time with pets inside, that the "Salesman Switch" solenoid also controls the 12vdc power to the air-conditioner/heat thermostat(s)! You will lose control over cool/heat if the solenoid fails, even though you may still have 120vac available.

Happened to us. Happy ending, fortunately... We got home in time.

Rex,

Couldn't you simply move one of the heavy wires to the other side of the solenoid
and attach it on top of the other wire?

Wouldn't that bypass the bad solenoid and keep us from having to buy or build
a new jumper wire?

Thx
