Noise from Engine

Hi,
On a couple of occasions on our trip south I thought I heard a shrill noise from the engine area. Was not able to reproduce it when parked and running engine at 1500 rpms. The first thing I will look at is the tensioner but want to ask if anyone has experienced a similar noise and what were the causes. Looking at alternator? Ac compressor? If I remember the 2 times I thought I heard the noise it was using the engine break Jake. This is on an 05 Windsor with 04 ISL 400

Check exhaust manifold at #3 cylinder for leaks...we all get it eventually, poor design.

Same noise for us. We've had to replace our exhaust manifold twice.

My 400ISL was doing the same thing.... broken exhaust manifold. This is fairly common on this engine. I had the diesel shop do the job because my Endeavor is a rear radiator and it’s tough to get to the exhaust manifold...
Good luck with it.

Look for soot marks around the exhaust manifold. I just replaced my gaskets yesterday. Blew number 3 gasket.

Good luck
