I can't figure why anyone would spend $1200 to fix a used refer when you can get the Samsung 197 for about $1000. Just because it runs on propane,I guess.

We have had our RF197 Samsung for six months and consider it to be the best improvement we've made to our MH. As someone else noted, you no longer have to think about your refrigerator. You treat it just like you do at home; you ignore it and expect that it will work without problems.

IMHO the manufacturers of RV refrigerators have failed to improve their products over the past several decades. The RV fridges of today are only marginally different from the one we had in our pop-up 20 years ago. Sure, the new ones offer things like automatic ignition and power switching from AC to propane, but the basic cooling system is pretty much the same. It was "adequate" 20 years ago; now it is simply overpriced for the performance provided. If you market an expensive piece of junk because you assume your customers don't have alternatives, you shouldn't be surprised when they figure out a way to do without you and your overpriced product.

Oh GREAT my post got HI-JACKED.... Trust me of I could I would install a Residential I would I have checked into it, and there are negitives. Like spending X amount of $$$ for a new inverter (mine is only 1500 watts) adding new batteries (I just put in 4 batteries) as we al know it is not good to mix OLD batteries with new by the time I got a chance to put more batteries I would have to buy 6 NEW ones... Then there is losing my heater because mine is under the Norcold. So you see there is a reason I asked what I did. If I wanted to install I would have asked that........ Besides if you will notice I am NOT a rookie and I have read ALL THE POST about installing the residential Fridge

SO THANKS FOR CHANGING THE SUBJECT OF MY POST........

Moderator if you want PLEASE delete this entire thread.......

Thanks Lee

Cannon Man: I only say a modified sine wave inverter wont work cause we had one in 2000 Alpine with a residential reefer. The reefer worked perfectly but the ice crusher motor burned out twice. The crusher changes from dispensing crushed ice to just cubes. It does it by reversing the motor. Somehow that was the problem. The modified sine wave inverter burned out circuits in the motor. With pure sine wave inverters I have had no problems............

To get you thru this trip, I would recommend Diplomat Don's ideas and highly recommend a new thermistor (Yes, it mounts on the inside frig. fin and is easy to replace--about 10 minutes) The thermistor is a high-failure item in the Norcold 1200LRIM as far as I'm concerned, and I carry a spare with me. When they go bad, the inside frig. temp. can be hard to regulate. It can go too warm, or too cold (Which was my case). Good luck. I am also looking into the Amish Cooling unit.

Here's a link to one of our members who warehouses the Amish cooling units. Read some of his posts, there is a lot of info that may help.

Lee, try rearranging the food on the shelves to give better circulation, if there is a small fan with you place it outside at the vent and let it blow upward at the back of the fridge(remove vent cover). If the fridge is on the sun side in afternoon, see if you can change campsites to put the fridge in the shade. These are small things I know but they can help. I have the Amish cooling and we are VERY happy with the results, it too is in a 1200 Nocold. We dry camp occasionally and also use our MH as a rescue home when we have Ice storms and lose power. I would do it again. DW and I did the work ourselves. Good luck with it till you get home

Thanks for the inputs. I have a Thermistor on the way. It should be here today or tomorrow. We are camped outside the East entrance of Zion right now and will be here until Wednesday. I talked to David in Memphis a few times last week and he suggested I start with the Thermistor.

Drifter I tried to get to the Thread you posted but it would not work....

I will ask the little woman to re-arrange the food for better circulation....

I have a feeling we will be going with the Amish Cooling unit no matter what when we get home. Either that or buy a newer MH....

LeeB....Here are a couple of other things I've done and my refer has been running great since. I had added an extra shelf to each door and noted that the position on the right door was blocking the bottom shelf on the right (where I keep milk and other tall drinks). I removed that extra shelf on the right door and now my milk is staying colder.....cold milk is a big issue with me!

On the left side, I removed the clear plastic sheet that is under the lowest shelf and above the slide in tray. It allows more cooling down in that area. I also run one of those little blue double fans the guy on Ebay sells.

Like I said.....I was getting ready to replace with a residential or do the Amish thing, but mine has been working like it should.

Love Zion!

Well I got the Thermistor today and installed it. Now my question is I am just outside Zion National Park with low humidity and temps in the mid 40 at night and 70's during the day.......

Question; What settings should I have the Fridge set at? And what temp should I expect.

Right now I have it set on 6 and (with Fridge use) it is 40* inside.........

Don I re-arranged the shelf's and items. I also have always had the little blue cube placed on one of the lower shelf's

Lee......I wouldn't set it any higher than 4 or 5. In those temps I would set mine at 4. Here is a photo of how I mounted my fan. I used the aligator clip to attach it to the fin and then I used a nylon tie wrap to secure the lower edge of the fan to the wire rack shelf. I also added an on/off switch so I wouldn't have to disconnect it to turn it off. I think this fan position moves the air where it needs to be.

If you look at the second fin from the right, you can see where I clipped the thermistor. Let us know what happens with your temps.

Thanks Don... With the Fridge set on 6 and the outside temp at 33*, it is showing 37* inside. There is not much food in there and there is plenty of room for the air to circulate.

Don I can only assume that you got power from the light somewhere. We are kinda stuck out here with not a lot of places to look for a fan. We were going to head out next Wednesday and head for home taking our time but they are calling for high winds on Wednesday so we may stay here for a few more days. We will be going through St. George I will try and find those fans. We will be stopping at Pahrump for a few days also. We have people living at our house and they are there until May 1st. So once we leave here we have time to kill and that killing my be the Norcold COOLING unit........ Grrrrrrrrrrr
