Onan 7.5 Diesel Funny Noise

Hello to all:

Still very new to my 97 Dynasty, what a learning experience this has been.

In preparation for our first major trip, ran the Generator today for over an hour along with the Air Conditioners.

When I shut down the Generator, there is a "clicking noise" or sounds like a slow electric motor or my wife says a wood pecker, that continues after the Genny shuts off and definitely is coming from inside the green box.

Any suggestions of what or where to look appreciated.

Thanks !

The only thing I can think of is maybe it is getting hot. Not sure if they have cooling fans.

Might just be expansion contraction as the exhaust cools. My Harley’s make a bunch of noises when they cool down after riding. Clicking, popping sounds

Thanks All !

Problem solved. generator switch has three positions, Down/Start, Up/Stop and Middle /Neutral.

The switch was stuck ever so slightly toward the Down / Start position, a small nudge and clicking stopped.

Restarted generator, fired right up and then made sure the switch returned to the "neutral" position after stopping and NO clicking sound.

Yep my Harley pops and carries on too after a good ride.

Regards.

Sounds like it was stuck in the "primer" mode.

And welcome to the forum.
