Out with Norcold In with Residential
Well I finally got my fridge from Lowes. We ordered it on 2/18/18 and they delivered it to us on 3/27/18, I want go into that looong story. After removing the norcold I realized just how close we came to having a fire, notice the charred ceiling in the photo. The Fisher and Paykel is 67.5" tall so I had to lower the platform to within 1" above the furnace. I had a metal frame built out of 1.25 angle and had a small foot welded on each leg so I could secure it to the floor. I then bolted a 3/4 piece of plywood on top of the metal frame, sorry I forgot to take a picture of the frame, but it worked great and was really easy to do. I took one of the curbside windows out and brought the fridge right in, the delivery guys tried through the door first, but my TV is mounted in the center and was causing them a problem. I was afraid they were going to scratch, tear or bend something, so I said hold on and give me 15 minutes. We set it in place hooked up water lines and plugged it in and it went right to work cooling and making ice. The width is so close to the norcold that very little trimming was needed. DW said she loves it and me life is good, can't wait to go on a trip and get some use out of it.

Great move along with a nice frig. My daughter had the Fisher and Paykel installed without the ice maker. Living in Alaska just something they didn't want to think about when it gets to a -50deg if the got all the water out, you will like it.
Hope you have something to keep the doors closed. I use the home made horse shoe works great and my daughter uses the same thing.
Mine has run on the inverter going on 5 years.

Wow you did a beautiful job you sure were lucky to have removed the old refrigerator who knows when it might have caught fire. I can't tell but do you have some space around the new unit for air to circulate. It looks pretty tight. Still a great looking job. Are you full timing it or just vacationing in your MH? Is the new refrigerator strictly 120 vac? Time to break out the ice glasses and give yourself a drink.

Yes it has circulation on the top and sides. It only runs on 120, I have tried it overnight with the inverter, it worked fine batteries were down very little after 14hrs. No we don't full time but we are retired and travel quiet often seeing this beautiful country.

Great job! The installation looks beautiful. You'll like the residential 'fridge. We've had ours in for about a month now and we love it!

Wow, I am so glad for you that you got that replaced before there was a fire. I replaced ours with a samsung about a year ago just from seeing what can happen with the 1200 norcold. I'm sure you will really like the fridge. Looks like you did a nice installation as well.

Beautiful job! I see where more and more folks are going to the residential fridge. Ive considered it myself. My question is for you pros out there, just so I am clear, If I go on a trip for a 3 day weekend with NO electrical hookup, will the residential fridge run ok of the inverter for 14 plus hours as you stated?
After that, can I just fire up my generator and recharge the batteries for a short time and run it again on the inverter. Seems like switching to residential with just one power source limits you. I use my propane to run the fridge when I have no land power.

Just curious, why did you pick that particular fridge? I never heard of the brand....

We have our MH hooked up to shore power while loading the 'fridge for a trip because we're fanning the door a lot. Then we let it sit overnight and leave out in the morning. The 'fridge is about 36 degrees and will stay that way for about 8 hours if you don't open the door. Now you can leave everything off while you drive or you can turn the inverter on and let the house batteries keep it cool.
When we get where we're going we start the generator and let it charge the house batteries. When the house batteries are recharged we turn off the generator and let the inverter run the 'fridge. We only start the generator when the batteries are getting low or at night if we have a lot of lights on or the furnace. Who needs propane?? I love the Samsung RF18 we installed in our motorhome. I didn't use the propane much anyway for the original Norcold (Nevercold)
