To be able to check how free the butterfly valve moves I take the air cylinder completely off. I and lubricate the air cylinder and pins easier that way and work the butterfly valve. With the cylinder in place I can barely move the butterfly valve. I use the high temp lube that PacBrake sells, a little bottle goes a long way.

In 2000, the trans could have been programmed to go to 4th gear or 2nd gear. My 93 was programmed for 4th gear. My 99 was programmed for 2nd gear. Both were Dynasty’s, with foot switches.
As these were foot switch activated only, the switch would activate them at anytime, even at idle.
Like the foot pedal so much, that I added one to my current coach.
Get out your test light and see if you have 12v going to your foot pedal. If so, see if you have have on other wire when you push the pedal switch.
If no 12v going to the pedal, check the fuse. If no 12v passing through to second wire when pushing the pedal, replace the pedal. If you have 12v both in and out of the pedal, test that the 12v is getting to the solenoid valve by the PacBrake.
I have had the pedal switch fail.
Linemaster 491-S Compact Foot Switch
Google the above, Amazon is high on price.
Tidbit of the day.
For the coaches that have the red dash switch to activate the PacBrake, you can use the PacBrake below 20 MPH, by selecting 1st gear. You will have to be in 1st, not just select it.

My butterfly was stuck bad when I bought it! Ended up removing it and bolted if down to steel bench. Made a 3' handle for the shaft and after alot of heat from acetylene touch finally got it moving very stiffly. I finally drilled a 1/8" hole into the bottom of the casting to get lube to the bottom shaft.Still very stiff so I chucked the whole butterfly up in lathe and spun the shaft for a half hour which freed it up nicely!
Needles to say mine is lubed twice a year with the proper PacBrake Lube!
Been working 3 years now with out any problems.
I'm told the proper way to test is put transmission in second gear on a down hill grade, put peddle to the metal and let off, while turning PacBrake on/off you can feel if its working. This works on mine!

I really don't have to do anything special to check mine other then turn it on and left off the accelerator, there is a noticeable jerk as it kicks in. I can also hear it.
What gets me is that there are more and more signs as you are coming into towns/cities about enforcement of sound laws. I do try to abide by these but sometimes it's not easy. I was in Duluth, Hwy 2, descending the long steep grade to the bridge and right there was a sign not to use an exhaust brake. Really!!!! I ended up getting my brakes hot to keep the rig below the speed limit.

I know I've got a PacBrake exhaust brake, and I know that it is working just from the feel. It has pretty good braking power on most hills. Steep hills I'll still have to stab the brakes to slow the rig down.

Perhaps better stated, the actual meaning of those signs: "Those signs are for ENGINE COMPRESSION BRAKES". Actually some of the signs are for UNMUFFLED ENGINE COMPRESSION BRAKES.
I think the distinction is needed, as Jacobs Corp makes both engine compression brakes and exhaust brakes.
Yes, I suspect Jacobs Corp appreciates all the free advertising all those town and cities do for them.

This applies to a Cummins mechanical C8.3 and Allison 3060 transmission. Electronic engines may be totally different. But the attached is how the mechanical Cummins and Exhaust Brake works on my 97 Dynasty.

Sorry I haven't responded to all of you who have taken the time to reply with such good information. I was admitted to the Heart Hospital in Austin, Texas with shortness of breath and chest pain. A heart cath. was scheduled for today but this must be heart attack season in the Austin area, as the Dr. had to attend to several emergency cases today. My procedure has been rescheduled for in the morning. The COE was kind enough to allow us to stay past our reservation at Cedar Breaks campground in Georgetown. It's been a couple of crazy days. Prayers sent this way are appreciated. God Bless all of you and your families with health and happiness.

cry42 and Tim thanks for the prayers, they worked. Heart is healthy and all stents are operating as intended. It appears the symptoms being caused by something gastrointestinal or spiritual. Will be checking with the gastrointerologist (is that a word) at home. Anyway, all is good, will be leaving tomorrow morning headed back home. More work to do on the MH. Will check out the workings of the pacbrake on the road. For some reason the fridge is not working off the inverter. Hate to run the generator all the time when on the road, so need to figure that out. Worked ok the last time we went out. Like you indicated Tim, they are snowflakes and it's always something. Gotta love the challenge.

Are you sure the fridge is plugged into the correct outlet for the inverter?
